220 Gallon (1/6/14-?)
Seems like my 220 hasn't been running very long, but if you look at most my coral and fish, 2010 seems like forever ago. I appreciate the comments. Hows things been with you?

Tank is starting to come along nicely after a year of road bumps, broken skimmers, broken ATO, bad alk reagent. I am back to sps again (they make me happy). Got to tell ya though I am thinking about going big.

Do you still like the Hydra? I have been hording lighting types, I have ATI T5, Metal Halide 250 wt Phoenix, and the AI Hydra. I really want to go MH again, but the heat dang it.

I run metal halides my first time with them and I do not think they produce a lot of heat more then leds yes but manageable. I also bought reefbrites halides because after talking to tulio he promised me that it would not raise my tank temp as previously thought and up until this point he has been correct. My tank has hit 79 degrees a couple times this year but I believe that's because my ac unit can't keep my house under 78 on a hot day with humidity. But as far as the horror stories I have read about halides and their heat Knock on wood I haven't had that happen to me yet. So u might wanna look into reefbrite halides if u want to run halides

The problem is that I live in AZ where the AC has to run almost continuously to keep an ambient temp of 78. I once had a chiller but they wear out fast here when you run MH, and I have a 45 gallon so unfortunately for 6 months out of the year MH is not an option without a chiller. I will for sure look at Reefbrites though, because I am a light hoarder. My tank is sps mostly so temp swings tend to lead to STN if it consistently gets over 82 F. I love MH and sps do seem to color better and grow a tad faster but sigh it's not to be on this tank.

Yea if the temp swings like five or six degrees in a day I would agree but I think if you run the tank at let's say 76-77 in the winter and 81-82 in the summer even tho the difference is six degrees that that would be ok

It does stink tho as in my old house I had to worry about the heat
