Yes, sorry...meant I would not run them together. There are other ways to know when your backup/emergency drain is having to be used...but this is the easiest (and free) way that I've seen

Just read through this and I'm looking forward to seeing your large refug in place. This is the same kind if thing I was thinking with my new 220 build.
For the plumbing, I would run the drain and backup into the same pipe...leave them separate. Have the backup/emergency drain empty out into the same space as your return pump...heck, right beside it. This will cause a large amount if bubbles to return into your DT indicating a problem with your main drain.

And yes I'm looking forward to the refugium as well
Thought about a plastic tank but I think it will be really cool in glass so I can see all the critters!

New refugium...180....if a refugium is hooked up ...up stream of a sump....does any one know if it reduces nitrates....its kinda like ....if a tree falls in the forest does any one hear it!!!
Oh ya ...and this really cool stand came with!!!
Going to put my frag tank on this stand....but how do I plumb it into system????
I should have had before pics of this tank...I think someone had turtles...half full with 5000 ppm of calcium..then left turtles to die...in tank... deposits on this tank were sick!!!
Vinegar and power sander with 1500 sand paper...it looks like new!!!

Anyway...I used under coating paint on stand!

Salt water will never touch this stuff!
And the tank...you could not see anything through!
But shouts out to my buddy Dan...deposits would not come off till he used straight vinegar and power sander!

For your question about the refug before the sump...that follows the triton method. There's lots of good info out there showing it to be the best....but I guess time will tell.

Ok...so a sump falls in the forest....it gets covered with moss and no one finds it till planet of the apes!!!!

I'm planning on doing the same on a much smaller scale on my next build...probably 2 40g breeders with the first being a refug that flows into a sump

I would put the refuge after the sump
Don't know what your going to run in the sump uv skimmers etc don't want that killing all the pods good bacteria etc....

Yes))...it requires a very high oxygen level and does not cohabitate well with dog fish(.
It does do exceptionally well with it fish cohabitants!!!
I have noticed a decrease in fish numbers when cohabitation with kitty fish(

Kitty fish also seams to spend a lot of time dog paddling at top of tank???
Is this a special way to repel dog fish...or do I not have the water oxygenated enough for kitty fish??

I am very worried about kitty fish in my system...but feel if I got some advice on refugium... sump... coral starter tank...we could accommodate kitty)!!
