29 AIO costume build.

So i finally have a coral.
This blastomussa has been in the tank 10 days and seems to do fine. I counted 12-13 heads or what to call them.

I drip acclimated and dipped in Fauna marine the dip.

Pictures are from today.

I've been in the planing stage for a sump upgrade these last couple of months hence wy no updates. But here we go.

Just a long story shorter. Because i got so focused on the new stuff my tank care got bad and I lost(killed) the blasto.

Edit: While writing this i started to remember how the blasto looked. Well, after a google search i now see that it was a sponge growing on the blasto. It looked just like this white/transparent web.

http://www.melevsreef.com/sites/def...03/public/structured_sponge.jpg?itok=sB4lN21o

This things grew so fast and i was sure the blasto was dying. So yes, i did kill it but not the way i thought. Shame on me. My biggest misstake yet and From now on i will Always ask you guys and not assume it's bad just because it looks weird. Here is another example of my knowlage. What i thought was sand attaching to glass, sump and return pump actually turned out to be Spirorbid Worms.

Anyhow. This is what i have done/bought so far.

P1050695.JPG

1) Built the sump using the same glass thickness as the display tank. 20x13x13,5" lxwxh.
2) Also a new RO/DI unit.
3) This one shipped yesterday.. Modular marine 1600gph oveflow with a few costume changes. Top notch service from these guys!
4) Ordered today. Return pump Blau DC reef motion 798gph( 3KDC). Ramps up slowly which is nice, and the controller comes with speed from 1-99%. http://www.blau-aquaristic.com/reefmotion-dc.html

4) New rock scape using brand new and only caribsea base rock this time. It's been cycling together with 1.2 liter
aquaforest life bio media for 5 weeks with ammonia dosing steady at 1.7-2ppm this hole time. Nitrite is now finally starting to go down from it's 5ppm spike and is reading 1ppm today.

All i need for painting and plumbing.

On the what to do list.

1) Drill the tank(crash) and test run the leaking plumbing.
2) Build a simple manifold for a future chaeto reactor just in case i want to add one later.
3 Paint the inside of the stand.
4) Build a T5/led fixture using my Blau led's(only on blue) and two ATI bulbs at first.
5) Buy a protein skimmer.

This is how i plan to plumb the beananimal. Everything is going to be in glass and white is only so you can se better.

tank 5.jpg
Filter floss holder. Blue is egg crate

tank 3.jpg

Light fixture that i can adjust the hight.

That is all i have for now.

So i've finished the sump.
I made the removable media basket the hole tank width instead.
And just if you wonder wy the bottom "seam" looks a little unsafe. I built all panels directly on the bottom this time and what you see is silicone i don't care to scrape off the edge of the bottom panel. It's a sump and i wount see it.

I whent clear rear box because i want to be able to see what's going on in there from at least one side of the box, so most will later be covered with black vinyl. I also had them remove the teeth, no removable weir and drill holes that fits my bulkheads.

The only thing that will delay this build is the return pump. Turned out the one i ordered has been replaced with a 264 gph new model instead, so now i have to wait for that one. It's a stronger pump but can be controlled the same way.http://www.ibercan.net/uploads/productos/910/imagenes/Blau Reef Motion KDC.jpg

It's not the most interesting thread. But thank you!

I've got some done since yesterday. I moved the livestock to a temporary setup with all rock and also sand. No problemes so far and all are eating like nothing happen.
I removed the acrylic overflow and cleaned the tank. Darn that overflow was hard to remove! Took me 30min and alot of razor blades.
And today i started painting the inside of the stand. I also made sure there is no gaps anywhere using latex, you know the latex on tube you use when painting. Last step will be 2 coats Polyurethane varnish, the same one i used for the outside of the stand.

Tank drilling this weekend which i'm not looking forward to.

Done. Phu!
I agree though. It's much easier than you think.

So today it's time for plumbing. I have most pvc cut and only need to do a full dry fit first.
And when i'm done with that i can coat the stand.

Edit. Done with glueing the overflow. Return i'll do tomorrow and I also need to put a 45 degree on the emergency pipe.

No it's the emergency. I'm running beananimal and the only way to fit all 90 degree elbows in the rear box is to use the midle as the emergency.
This was the only design i could think of. Bad idea? If so i can just place it in the in the middle of the other plumbing instead.

Yeah, maybe not the smartest move to have it in the return area. People usually have their emergency in the refugium section and for me that will have to be the skimmer chamber i guess. Thats how i hade it at first so.

Edit: I fixed it and the emergency is now in the middle.

Yesterday i tested the whole systeme and everything worked perfect and i was able to tune the overflow dead silent in very short time. I also tested the overflow several times. Secondary took over right away when main got blocked, and emergency took over when main/secondary got blocked. I also simulated a power outage and the water dident even reach the skimmer chamber.
And to my suprice not one single leak in either bulkheads, unions or glued joints when running the pump on 100%.

I did redo all of the plumbing.
P1050782.JPG

Some other things i've done.

Built the adjustable fixture. I still need to attach the last LED though.

This is how i run the plumbing. When running I have 3,4" left before the box overflows which is great.
P1050797.JPG

I also sanded down the stand and stained with ZAR black which turned out relly nice. Instead or the yellow/brown it's more dark brown now.
And lastly reinforced the euro brace just because wy not.

Tank has been up for a few days and everything is working perfect with no leaks.

New scape is carib sea base rock only that is attached with aquforest cement and a thicker layer epoxy on top with attached rock rubble here and there. So the big scape is standing on an acrylic plate and the cave inside is epoxy/rubble to make cleaning easier.
Another change is a lower scape and not like my old, well sps scape i guess.

Next on my to do list. Add the second LED , T5's and my streamer, which i can only do when i have moved back the live stock to the tank, and of course clean up the wires etc.

Not my favorite view and not vissable from were i look at the tank. It is not the same rock structure that i had in my old setup although it looks very much like it. It's base rock boulders carved down to plates that just happen to turn out very similar.

Following along. I really like the scape. Can you give a bit more color on the lighting? Does it move on a track?

Thanks.

The canopy can be moved all the way down so it touches the eurobrace, and as most around 19" obove the euro brace. The white shelf brakets are attached to the canopy and the black rails are attached to the wall. Brakets i'm using. https://media1.bauhaus.se/media/catalog/product/0/1/0117210A.jpg

So all i need to do is lift of the canopy and place it in a higher or lower hole/track in the black rail.

im dying to know.. where did you get those beautiful dry rocks from your first build ?
