2x Maxspect XF350 enough flow for a 180 SPS?

Going to restart a 180g (72x24x24). Picked up 2 Maxspect XF350 as I like the gyre tech. These max out at about 5200 gph.

Will these be enough flow for a future SPS dominant tank?

If not I had thought about adding 2 Tunze streams on a controller along the back of the rock work. Something like 1700 gph each.

I see that the Echotech Mp40 seems to be very popular as well but at a significant increase in price.

Best options?

I run 2 icecap 4k and 2 jebao mp 40 equivalents in a 125. The gyres have to be on back wall bc of overflow on an 18" wide tank so they are running at about 50%...plenty of flow.

I have a 72" peninsula. Running two xf350 at 100% from only the overflow side. I have issue with not enough water surface agitation at the other end but other than that, plenty of flow.

I am running (2) XF350 in my Red Sea S400 (40" across). These are great with plenty of flow for my tank but I don't think they will provide enough flows for a 72" long tank (let alone SPS tank).
They are also losing flow rather quickly. I have to clean my 3-4 weeks (barely enough flow at 100% on the 4th week). I just added a Tunze Streams to get more flow and really like the Tunze. I will probably get rid of the XF350 and get another Tunze to run on the opposite side.

That is disappointing to hear about the rapid flow loss and increased cleaning required.

It does sound like some supplemental flow from a powerhead or 2 will be needed when I start adding SPS.

I can tell you that I have identical xf350 and I clean them every 3 week’s religiously or they bog down.

besides thT I have two mp40 which is appropriate for SPS in this tank! I say you need to add two or similiar

If you add those Tunze they will be perfect. I wanted to get those since I hear good things about them! I might replace the xf350 with Tunze turbelle in the near future .

I’m telling you those gyres cleaning is out of hand lol… but that’s party of “husbandry”

Regarding powerheads, are the mp40 really that much better than the Tunze or Nero models? When I was last in the hobby the Tunze were considered premier.

I like that I control my mp40 schedule with the app. With the Tunze I believe you need to add something I know for the Maspect it’s another expensive piece to control.

The Nero 5 is now compatible with Möbius! However, those 100’s of stories and pictures of small fish and anemones getting caught in the powerhead even with the guard, was a big no for me.

I still have a 7095 controller for Tunze pumps but it is the old tech. I sent a message to Roger to see if this is even compatible with the new pumps.

I do like the ability to pull the wetside on the mp40 and swap it out with another one for cleaning.

I’ve got a 5 foot 165 gallon tank with 2 xf280’s and 2 mp 40’s, and I’m still looking at ways to increase water movement.

i would use the 350’s and add 2 more pumps on each end.

Yes, very disappointed with the lost of flows with Maxspect XF350 for sure. I have to lower my settings down to 10%-20% right after cleaning but up to 80%-90% after 3 weeks.
Although they did make a major improvement with the Motor/Propeller end caps (now using Silicone O-Rings). So much better for reassemble and appears to be quieter compared to the old old (which only lasted me about a year or so since the caps got loose and made a lot noises).

Dang. These XF350s are still in the box that they arrived in 3 weeks ago.

Maybe I should return them for something else.

Just got 2 of the MP40s for XMas. Maybe 2 more or maybe 2 of the MP10s?

Personally I would replace my 2 xf350 and run 4 mp40 total. All hooked up to mobius

That's also double the cost.

People complain about gyre but no other pump is more effective when comparing cost.

I want to like the gyre. It is very unique in the flow patterns created. Just don't want to have to be cleaning them every 2 weeks to maintain performance.

Reviews are coming back very similar to what is being said hear. Makes me concerned that I might have made a poor choice.
