300 gallon AGE build

I think having sand opens up your choices for livestock... I like to have an area for clams, sand sifting fish, tongue corals, etc... There is a lot of activity on the sand I think I would miss.

I think so too. I decided to go with a shallow sand bed.

Well I finally got some time to work on the tank and plumbed up the drain section doing a beananimal. I filled with fresh water and used some flex hose on the return pump just to get the system running to see if I had leaks on the drains and everything looks good! I'll be doing the return plumbing this week. Using a Water Blaster 7000 for my return, it is very quiet. This weekend I plan on tearing down my 180 gallon and putting all livestock and rock in a temporary 160 gallon stock tank. I hope to have the 300 moved over to where the 180 was next week and then can fill and start cycling! I will post a couple pics of the plumbing this evening.

Here are a few pics of the drain plumbing.

Looks well done!

Work and family keeps me pretty busy but got a couple things done this weekend. I finally moved the aquarium to its final resting place and finished the return plumbing. Below are also a couple pics of the temporary fish holding tank, 150 gallon rubbermaid stock tank. I haven't lost a single fish yet!

Some new additions! These are in my frag tank right now. Will QT them there unless I see a sign of disease. Sorry, bad cell phone pics.

Aquascaping done, sand and water in and tank is running! I ordered a skimmer stand, ATO reservoir and Dosing Reservoir from Melev's Reef which should be here next week. I have the light installed as well...don't mind the wires, they will get more organized in the next couple weeks. I still haven't decided what kind of wrap I want for the stand...wood or I was thinking smoked acrylic? What are the opinions on the aquascape?

Man, that's a great setup. That sump is awesome. The plumbing is simple and you did a great job on it. Should be a great looking reef. :)

Beautiful tank and great progress so far. I just came across your aquascape in a different thread and wanted to find your build. I'll be following along as I have a similar project on my hands.

I'll be close to your neck of the woods in a few days -- Nisswa/Brainerd-area! :)

Regarding your comment on how to skin the AGE stand, I'm in the same boat and thinking of doing a white acrylic. But we're also buying new furniture for the room that the tank is in so that may play into things a bit. Acrylic vs. wood just depends on personal preference and your other decor.

Thanks! I'm still doing work organizing everything, the cords and all that jazz. I'll have more pics soon.

Thank you! I'm not at all artistic and the aquascape was starting to get to me...I must have redone it a dozen times.

What were you doing up in the North woods?

I'm very tempted to do smoked acrylic on one side and the end and leave it open on the other side. The side with the acrylic will be on the movie/family room side and the other side will be the office. That way when I'm working I can see the whole thing :) What thickness acrylic do you think would work?
