32 Biocube Mixed

Guess Ill put this here. I hadnt even had a chance to start a new thread for the Biocube V2 and we had a disaster.

I removed my apex lite from the tank yesterday with plans to move a full classic version onto it and clean up all the wiring while I was at it... Well wouldnt ya know the apex mustve been doing its job keeping my heater in check. Cobalt Neotherm 150 stuck on and cooked the tank overnight. Woke up this morning to a stench in the room. Found this.

Way too late. My First clown pair and their anemone were goners. :(

OMG! So sorry for your loss! I got my ApexEL during black Friday at BRS just because of this kind of thing. So crazy that heaters routinely have this issue! Its a good lesson to all of us using redundant systems to watch closely anytime we make changes to those systems so that we don't have to wake up to the same disaster. Its like 'Muphys Law' is always stalking reefers...

Yep, Murphy always strikes the moment we let our gaurd down. I really should have expected something to go wrong but figured I was safe waiting another day to setup the replacement. Certainly still bummed out :(

Oh No! Oh my gosh I'm so sorry. :(
This was the source of yesterdays crap day. Flushing those two was heartbreaking and the Nem was a pile of snot on the sand bed.

From all the folks on Instagram that replied in the last 24 hours this is extremely common with the Neotherm heaters. Take that as you will but Ill never use one again.

I'm looking to replace my heater. I appreciate the heads up. Unfortunately, the reviews on all heaters have been mixed. I have one picked out.
They can all fail however at least 10 people responded having all had the same issue with the neotherm. One or two wouldnt have worried me but the reaponse was surprising.

Heaters suck. I use 2 redundant, full size NeoTherms and an InkBird Controller. Triple redundancy and I still worry.
Thats the direction I took on the larger system as well.

Wow, sorry to hear about this. What a bummer. :(

How is the Biocube doing since the heater malfunction?
All in all its bouncing back pretty well. Its a little brown at the moment as the marco rock is still maturing but all the coral and fish are doing well.

Pair of clowns
Royal Gramma
Pair of Yasha Gobies
Small Flame Wrasse (Just growing him out a touch before he goes in with the big boy wrasse)

Glad to hear it's bouncing back! We intoduced a very small Mccoskers Wrasse to the wife's the other day for a short grow out before going into mine. He was maybe an inch at best....vanished, with no signs anywhere.

Oh man, sorry thats a bummer... i wonder if an anemone made a meal of him while sleeping? I know theres a few good sized ones in there.
This flame is probably the same size, maybe 1/4” bigger.

I was suspecting the nems...only thing in the tank that could take it out.

Wow, Haven't updated here since January, Eeeek! Tanks really hit its stride. Given a little more TLC of late with a regular monthly water change and getting the doser dialed back in after knocking the plug out at some point. Alk is back to 8.5.

Planted a couple of sps frags on top of the rock work to hopefully fill that void above the anemone.

Needs a couple more fish as we’re down to just a pair of clowns and the Gramma. Thinking about a ruby red dragonet, geometric pygmy perchlet and either a possum or pink streaked wrasse.

Looks good! That nem has nice colors!

It really does... I have to use the filter to catch the color. Feels like an injustice if I don't do it.
