Good luck, all mine did was frustrate me.

I had one that was 31" deep and all I can say is take care when building your stand. I'm only 6 foot and the stand was too tall for me to reach anything. I had an eight foot ladder to do cleanings and still couldn't reach the back of the tank.

Unless the tank can be accessed from the back, you must have one heck of a reach. If I did the math right, it's about 50 inches from the front top to the back bottom. I drop to much stuff, have to many frags fall, for me to ever do the washing machine build again.

thats true. I will definitely have to take the stand height into consideration

I know its not easy that's why I can't do it. but i was wondering if someone could build me something on sketchup

obv 36x36x36.. external overflow

total height with stand about 56" so liek a 20"ish stand..

Here you guys go..someone drew me up something

Just wondering.. How would i go about building an external overflow.not the box.. but cut the hole in the back pane of glass? and mount the acrylic teeth? I dont want just holes. I want like a strip.

Thats with a 20" stand height.. not much i could put down there. No worries if i do this build i would also have a fishroom in the basement

For flow..2 mp40s. 2 tunzes something or others and then return from basement probably on those sea swirls.

I may only use one tunze not really sure

Its going to be hard to reach the back bottom in that rig I think. That being said...

AWESOME!!!

i have a 48x48x30 cube and love the dimensions. im 6'2" but cant reach the bottom without using tools. you get used to using tongs to place things. i would highly recommend building your rockwork like legos using a masonry drill and fiberglass rods to hold it all together. while your drilling your rock drill ALOT of extra holes. then you only need to plug in your frags and not glue anything. dont forget that if you drill perfectly sized holes for the frag plugs, 3/8 in my case, that in a few months the new plugs wont fit due to stuff encrusting upon your rock. the other thing i would consider is the stand height to tank height ratio. it is definately a matter of preference but to me that drawing looks top heavy and not balanced. get a good step stool and all will be well. especially if your old house has tall ceilings

I wanted to add that you would be surprised how deep of a tank can be lit with 400 watt halides. I saw a tank in LA in LFS that was 6 feet tall and full of soft corals to the bottom. It was lit by 400 watt halides. There is a jewelry store in town that has a tank that is 1,200 gallons. It is 3-4 feet high, and lit with 400 watt halides. It even has sps near the bottom. It just takes more lights in a smaller area to make it work.

I would think if it was a normal 30" tall stand. it would be a risk of tipping over.. not that almost 2000lbs tip easier.. but i really wanted to be able to view top down that's why. i was actually even considering going shorter on the stand height... but definitely steel stand

this is definitely still in the idea stage.. i need to get a job before i can even buy the glass

I do know most of the equip i would be using. Probably and Octo extreme 300..Octo calc reactor or kalkreactor...1 400w ballast for free from slyvania probably 400w 10k and some vho supplementation.. probably going to keep my ACJR for a little while.. Then go to a Apex.

oo and a few BRS reactors for PO4 and carbon and what not

I'm going to have a basement fish room as well.. 55g frag tank... 125g sump..

and I'm going to use glass probably 1/2in or 3/4 in glass.. maybe starfire.. for 3 panels even though 2 will be visible, but for the future the tank may be moved or whatever not really sure on that

And i will definitely drill the rock.. and i like the idea of the frag plug holes..

I lied it would cost me around a grand just for glass. lol.. 3 3/4" starphire panels cost 864

thanks man.. he did with 3/4" acrylic. is acrylic harder or soft+er than glass. Like which bows more?

Acrylic would bow more than glass. Acrylic also scratches very easily. Starphire glass can scratch easy also, but not as easy as acrylic.

I had a 80 gallon Hex tank a few years ago. It was 36 inches deep. It was a total pain in the Tush. You had to get shoulders deep in the thing to move stuff around. I had one 400W MH bulb over top of it, and flow was difficult to get right..
