1. Tang's - after reading about the amount of Tang's in people tanks according to size, I noticed I'm above average. So I don't think I will add the Purple Tang nor any other tangs no more. The question is whether you guys think I should remove one of my Tang's?

Ever since I put the Powder Blue in, all the Tang's started behaving differently. If in the beginning they were only aggressive towards the Powder Blue, they now started to show some aggression between themselves. I don't think it's anything too serious but it is quite constant and it doesn't look as if it's about to stop. How long should I wait before making a move? Is there a chance the aggression will stop and all 4 Tang's will be able to live together in my tank?

The Blue Tang is the biggest of them all, the Yellow Tang the most aggressive, and the Desjardini although probably the least attractive he is sure the most human friendly and probably my favorite. The Powder Blue i'm just in love with and since it's so rare to find a good one as I was lucky to... I would hate removing him. I love all of them very much.
Hope you guys can help.

2. Lithophyllon Honeysickle - This coral as well as all the other small ones I got from Central Reef were placed on the bottom sand in the beginning. Then I decided to put some of them on the rocks. A couple of days ago I woke up and saw that this coral and another small one were on the sand upside down. The other Coral was just the same but the Honeysickle completely lost it's coloring. It used to be Yellow but now it's like dark Grey.

Does anyone have experience with such a coral? Any chance it might get it's color back or should I get rid of it?

3. 90% of the Zoa's I have in my tank are closed. Is there anyway I can somehow get them to open up?

4. My maintenance guy suggests I get a male Mandarin fish for my female so that they can live together. Would you guys recommend that as well?

Thank you all for your input and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Question 1: In a 110g I wouldnt have more than one tang but thats just me... you could get away with two small tangs but eventually they will outgrow it. Im now way trying to be the tang police but they do need a lot of swimming space! Also powder blues and purples are two of the most aggressive! definitely do not add a purple! it will most likely fight with the yellow tang!! If I was in your situation I would keep the powder blue... Like you said theyre hard to find in good condition.

Question 2: dont know never kept that coral!

Question 3: Sounds like theyre not happy at all specially if every single one is closed and you have different types... whats your water parameters? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, salinity, temp, alk, calcium, mag) Did they open before? maybe theyre in to much light or to much flow?

Question 4: No way would I have two mandarin gobies in a 110!!! there is just not enough food... they only eat pods even when theyre eating mysis or brine they still dont seem to get the right nutrition and will wither over time unless theyre in a big tank. Not sure how long you have had it now but i hope youre dosing pods! they do not need to be paired to live a long life they just need the right food

@Reefnewb Thanks for your detailed. I very much appreciate it.

The only reason I joined this forum is to have someone I can talk to and share my thoughts and "achievements" with.

1. I am very new to this and my thought process is that I should enjoy my tank as much as I can as long as I can, so for me it's like trying to put there as many different corals I can so I try different stuff and the same with the fish.

The first guys maintaining my tank were very direct about me not getting any new big fish besides my blue and yellow tank who were there from the get go. But the new guy said why not and so we got the desjardini. The Powder Blue was already my ambition as he was against it.

So, the situation right now is me knowing it's wrong keeping so many tangs in my tank, especially with one of them (Blue) being quite big already. But my next question if I may, is when should I make that move? i mean to remove one of them from my tank will probably take 5 min max. So how much longer can I or should enjoy the sight of the 4 of them being there together?

What I think I will eventually do is remove the blue tang. It's a beautiful fish but it's huge already and it's like he has the biggest appetite of them all. Then we'll go from there.

2. Just a tiny tiny coral that cost me $50 :p

3. I have no clue to be honest. Should I ask my maintenance guy to measure all of them? He says that the water condition is tops. Other than that I don't really ask much about the water. But I must say my corals are not showing too much growth as of yet. It's a good point about the flow and lighting, Perhaps i'll try a different spot in the tank and see how they fare. Do Zoa's also like low light and low flow?

4. Ok got your point. The aquarium shop told me they were feeding this mandarine frozen food but I didn't notice it feeding on it yet. She mostly feeds off the rocks. She's been more outgoing lately so it's all good.

5. A new question :) The total count of fish right now is between 16-18. I have never had any wrasses in my tank and I noticed there are some very nice colorful ones. If I add only 1 is that ok, or they live better in groups of 2-3?

Happy new year to you and your family. All the best in 2017!

@MmmmBalf Thanks for your comment. Me and my Blue will most probably part ways one day soon. But I can't let my Desjardini go!??! It's the only fish that let's me rub it while feeding :))

We'll see.

Happy New Year!

WOW! 16-18 fish in a 110 with 4 big tangs is way overstocked IMHO. I have but 9 small in my 90g. You need to get actual param numbers from your guy, and list them for the people here. "Tops" means nothing as sometimes more sets of eyes catches something. Pictures and full details would help too. (lights, skimmer, PHs, age of tank, feeding schedule) any and every detail you can think of.

Будь очень осторожен когда тебе говорят что всё хорошо и особенно когда ты им платишь деньги. Твои кораллы наверно не открывается потому что много аммоний и недостаточно света. Пожалуйста поставь нам фотографии.

for those that don't read Russian:
Be very careful when you say that all is well and especially when you pay them money. Your corals must not be opened because a lot of ammonium and insufficient light. Please put us pictures.

That's a pretty close translation. Good stuff.

It says be; careful when people tell you everything's OK and especially when you pay them. Your corals may not open because you may have a lot of ammonia and not enough light.

Sorry I should have did it in English and Russian.

@Chefbill Well, It's the holidays so it might not be until tuesday next week. But I will sure ask him to measure all the things you wrote. I wrote a more detailed post about my tank but it's very very long and maybe that's why not so many people read it. Time is precious to all of us i'm afraid. But you can see some pictures there. I will try and upload a video here.

The more time passes I see how heavily my Blue tang is feeding. I will have to remove him sooner or later. How does it work when removing a fish. I mean should I look for a buyer? I sure don't want to kill it!!!

Lights and skimmer I will upload from my iPhone. The Tank is 18 months old. I am feeding 3 cubes of Artemia 12 pm, a piece of Nori 4 pm and another 3 cubes of Artemia at 8 pm. The Wave Pump is on from 10 am to 10 pm. During the night there is a very low Blue light. Until 12 pm it gradually grows and yellow and blue lights are increasing. 12 pm until 9 pm i think its around 70% light. Then from 9pm to 10:30pm it gradually decreases and at 10:30 there is very little blue light until the morning.

@USMC 4 LIFE Thanks for your comment. The only corals that don't feel well in my tank are my Zoa's. I tried to give them a different position with less light and less flow but their still closed. I must ask my maintenance guy about the Ammonia you mentioned. Regarding the light, I know for sure it's possible to have stronger light, but might it not harm the other corals? To be honest the Zoa's I have are nothing special so I don't mind much them not opening. I was just curious to know. Will post an answer after I find about the Ammonia status in my tank.

That's the control panel of my pump. It was added right away after changing the maintenance guys. The new guy said there is not enough flow in my tank and like this nothing good can come of it. Looking back now I must say it's more attractive in my opinion when there is movement in the tank especially since most of my corals are soft. I guess that with an SPS tank there is not as much flow cause it's not needed. I noticed also that Euphyllia don't like too much flow, so I put my 2 small one's in the very bottom protected by rocks.

This Ventilator was added about 6 months after set up. There was a problem with the temperature of my tank and in order to keep it cooler we decided to add a ventilator. It's constantly working.

So, going back to my Zoa's I decided to put up some pictures so we can elaborate on the issue. In the second picutre you can see most of them. All my Zoa's, about 4 or 5 colonies came attached to this round rock. There was also this green grass which seems to be doing quite well.

So they all came attached to this rock and we put right at the center of my tank. In the beginning it was better but after some time most of them closes and it's been like this for quite a while.

We then detached some of the colonies and put them in separate places.

The Zoa's in the second pic, were just next to the round rock. But in this spot there started a growth of some light brown plant and it covered the Zoa so I guess that explains why that one is closed. I moved it now the bottom of my tank but the light brown plant is still there.

Regarding this plant. My maintenance guy can't really explain what it is. He say's it came with the rocks that were put at set up. Evert few times he comes he uses some kind of white fluid to remove this plants but they just keep on growing. Mostly in 2 parts in my tank. The reason I got a Diadema is with hope it will feed on this plant but that hasn't happened as of yet.

Is anyone familiar with this plant? And is there any way I can remove it completely?

Looks like they are getting choked by something. What is that stuff growing around it?

I couldn't post the video not from my smartphone and not from my MacBook. So i'll just add the pic's from the other post instead.

That's my tank today.

That's the coral i was talking about - Honeysickle. It's tiny but thats how it was when i bought it.

And that's what it was like after i found it face down on the sand one morning last week. Decided to throw it away yesterday as it wasn't getting back any of it's original color.

That's a picture of my tank when i still had 7 Anthias Dispar fish. They were a very beautiful sight swimming like this together. But unfortunately it didn't last very long. Today I think there are not more than 2-3 left but they hardly seen :(

spend the $100 and get a test kit and test your own parameters.
If I had to choose a maintenance guy I would have gone with your first guy.
When I look at an aquarium store I look to see how clean their tanks are.

If you are running a store and your tanks are not clean, how do I expect you to do good work. Would you hire a plumber whose pipes leaked? A carpenter whose house is not level?
No

You should have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate test kit anyways in case of emergencies.

@USMC4Life that's also my question. They maintenance guy says it's the first time he sees this stuff and he injects some white stuff on it every once in a while to remove it. But it keeps coming back.

Hopefully someone in this great Forum will have a look and let me know if there is a way to completely get of it once and for all.

@Chefbill @Ramasule @Reefnewb

Hi, so the long awaited tests took place today and here's what we have:

Nitrate - 10
Salinity - 36%
Temperature - 25 Celsius
Alk - 8
KH (carbonate hardness) - 6.5
Calcium - 400
Mag - 1300

So what now? Is this any good??

Hi! I looked through your other thread too, so can say with certainty that your tangs are cute little babies. The desjardini and blue are about a quarter of the size they get. So, agree with everyone else about removing them.

To get rid of the stuff growing around the Zoanthids I would use a soft bristle toothbrush. Looks like a golden algae. http://www.lionfishlair.com/hitchhikers-guide/ is a great starting point to figure out what it is and how to kill it. Oh and this site https://www.reefcleaners.org/nuisance-algae-id-guide

The anthias are probably starving. They need to be fed multiple small meals a day. 4+ to be exact. I'm not worried about the number of fish, just overall bioload. You currently have a high bioload for your tank. Not too hard to bring it back down. remove those two huge tangs, don't replace the anthias. See how it looks then.
