I’ve tried to keep them as different wrasses and obviously you can mix and mash the combinations within eachother (None of the wrasses above should fight). Avoid the Pseudocheilinus genus as these will become aggressive - Mystery’s are of this genus - and should not be kept with other wrasses.

What I like about wrasses is the color variety and they just swim everywhere in the tank all day.

You will definitely need a tank lid. I'm sure it was mentioned but melanurus are beautiful also and great pest control.

I know- definitely one of my favourite kind of fish- but when the missus is as much in to reefing as I am, compromise is hard

My new Cade 1200 comes with a mesh-lid so should be grand

I love that you have so much different beuatifull wrasses. I already have the rainbow wrasse halichoers melanurus and i will also adding 4 wrasses soon, ive already orderd some of them.

ive already orderd the ocellatus Mystery wrasse and the pintail fairy isoscelis wrasse.

First i wanted the Cirrhilabrus Aurantidorsalis but then i saw the Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis… i heard you cant keep them both because they probaly will fight so i definitely go for the Rhomboidalis

And as 4th wrasse i still dont really know… maybe one from the marcophayngodon (leopard) family wrasse.. i dont really know yet. Love to hear any suggestions, price isnt that really a thing.

i have a 20gallon qt tank and i will pick up all 4wrasse at same time from lfs. Do u think the 4wrasse will fit for couple weeks inside the qt tank?

For me it’s hard to choose since I love them all. My Fairies, Flashers & leopards have always tended to play nice with each other when they are from different species.

In my old tank I had stocked strictly wrasse only from various genuses including a line spot flasher, eightline flasher & royal flasher wrasse housed with a pink margin, naokoae, exquisite & a potters leopard wrasse. Fast forward to today and it’s no longer a strictly wrasse tank but I currently have a pintail fairy housed with a melanarus wrasse.

I find myself in this same boat now as I want to add a flasher to my new tank but I just can’t seem to narrow it down to just one They are all so beautiful in their own ways but if I was in you’re situation I would find one or two from each genus that you really like and try to chose one or the other from there !

I second the melanurus, or a Formosa coris wrasse. Love both and they are great on pest control.

3 out of 5 wrasses are pictured. Missing the Christmas wrasse and the Lubbock's.

Wrasses are by far my favourite family of fish. I have a total of I believe 10 (eventually 12) in my house. The colour and shapes you find in them is so different in every species.

So, here's a simple one for the experts- and a difficult one for the rest of us!

After hours of research, looking through wrasse compatibility charts, forum threads etc. I have to ask my fellow reefers for help!

We're taking delivery of our new Cade 1200 aquarium on Monday- and I am trying to finalise the fish stock list as best as I can.

We have settled on a number of four wrasses- we like their nature and the way they behave in the tank! What we can not agree on is which four to get.


What would you do? Colourful and good-natured preferred!


1. Timor Wrasse (... we have him already!)
2. ?
3. ?
4. ?

Melanurus Wrasse and Sixline my preferred, sixline can be aggressive though. Melanurus hasn’t bothered cuc at all

They’re not too bad with CUC however to reduce risk here’s what I go for when it comes to snails:
1. Nocturnal/Sand Sleeping?
- Nassarius
- Cerith
- Bumblebees
2. Can they flip themselves?
- Trochus
- Cerith
- Nerites

I’ve just read through the combinations again and realised I did actually put C. earlei in the mix.

They also have rather thick shells so they can often be ignored for a prey item.
