So does anyone have any idea as why my tank water would clear up and then get foggy again??

could be just some fine debris from rocks and sand. did you wash either of these before putting in tank and water?

The nitrifying bacteria won't have anything to work on if you don't 'dirty' the tank - either by dosing pure ammonia or by adding something that'll decompose and add ammonia that way (common practice is a chunk of raw shrimp).
Dr. Tim's "One and Only" for example is a good "fishless cycling" nitrifying bacteria, and they also offer a small bottle of ammonium chloride you can dose 1 drop / gallon to give those bacteria something to feed on and proliferate.

Is a 300 watt heater too big? I use a 200 watt on my 46 gal and I think it is a bit too big. Other than that I am a bit jelly of your setup. I was debating over the Bubble Magus curve5 and SCA 301 and went w/ the SCA for pricing reasons. I'm interested in how your refugium section will work... I designed a 7" section of my 10 gal sump for a fuge, but have not put any macro algae in it yet. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

I also have a couple of fish in there now so the bacteria should be working off of their waste and the 300watt does great! keeps the tank between 78.2-78.6. Im still trying to get the curve5 tuned in seems to be taking a bit to get it figured out.

Well trying to be cheap doesn't pay off added a few fish and one got ich and died......so i bought a quarantine tank and now have the 3 other fish in there currently and will be treating them
