I have been wanting a peninsula tank for quite some time and always thought I would have to move house to accommodate one correctly, but found a way round the whole house move thing by knocking down a wall instead :D

I have been working on this project for the past 3 weeks and decided to start a thread to track the progress and share my journey with the reefing community.

My design is to fit into a specific space so a tank 48" in length 24" deep (at the deep end) and 20" wide was the maximum I could go without it being too intrusive into our living space. The deep end is 20"x20"x24" with a 6" step up to the shallow 28"x20"x18" section. I have calculated the volume of the display tank at around 80 gallons and will probably end up with roughly 13 gallons in the sump.

In terms of aquascape, I am thinking of having two main sections, one just higher than the step at the front, but moulded around the step and then another large section raising up toward the weir and back of the tank. I intend on having smaller isolated rocks dotted around.

I expect to have the tank delivered at the beginning of January based on the lead time required of 12 weeks, but there is still plenty I will be working on in the interim period, with either equipment, sump, aquascaping and starting the cycle process off with the rock in a Brute bin.

Hope fellow reefers find this little build interesting and thanks in advance for taking the time to look and comment.

I now have all of my core equipment for this build, which comprises of the following from left to right:

Theiling Compact Rollermat
DD heater controller
DD Titanium 300 watt heater
Coral Box WiFi 4 channel dosing pump
Evolution Aqua 25 watt UV sterilizer
Maxspect RSX200 light unit with hanging kit
Maxspect Gyre XF330 dual pump and controller
Kessil H80 fuge light with mounting bracket
Kamoer ATO pump and controller
TMC DC Reef Pump 5000 LPH
Reef Octopus Classic 150-S

Y'all are going to make me want a drop off! Well I already want one.. HA! Following along!!

Glad you all like this... I'm still with no fish or Corals due to having high metal contaminating I'm running detox and carbon

Any other tips

I'm also having huge problems with GHA too

I'm running rophos which is 3 weeks old so maybe it needs replacing

I will get some test up on Sunday as I'm away with the family

Lights are still running on timer and everything is as. It should be

Gyre XF330 have you used these befor I'm intrested in the for my tank
No this is a first for me, I used Vortech's before. The idea was to mount them vertically either side of the weir, to create a flow going round the outside of the tank at randomised flow %, moving the point of turbulence, but to keep the return flow heading back down the middle over the aquascape and coral.

Who did you use as your glass supplier?

What's your GHA look like?

I can get some pictures Sunday when home

My issues is I have 19mm glass so need strong magnets

I have a mp40 about 12inch from the sand on the drop off part and a
M2 pump on the closed loop

I can keep you updated just didn't want to jump on your tank thread

Been working on the aquascape, as I wanted to get the two main structures complete so I could start them off cycling.

Open to suggestions / comments on this so far...

The aquascape looks nice, but imo the upper segment needs 1-2 small "loose" rocks on the sand and not just the "big pile of rocks".
Yeah agreed, I was going to experiment a bit with smaller pieces once I have the tank. I have some more adjustments to sure up the mid section, with a bit more grinding to get done and I think i'll get them in the Brute and start them off cycling.

Still working on the aquascape, I have had to grind back the surfaces for the step and create channel for where the lip will be between the shallow/deeper section, but I have to say it's driving me crazy.

Easily the most annoying aquascape I have ever done.

I am cycling the rock now, so will just lift it straight into the tank when it's filled as live rock. I will persevere this week with it.
