just got the 525 XL

If anyone has this curious to see what skimmer your all running? Just getting opinions at the moment. Sorry if this has been a repost but I just can’t seem to find the correct discussion.

Thanks a bunch

Vertex omega 180i love it needs three inch stand to work perfect

Thoughts on Reef octopus classic 202-S?
i bought this exact skimmer and tank. I've had the skimmer up and running for just over 2 weeks and it takes every bit of two weeks to break in if you put it in the system straight out of the box. It's a beast of a skimmer works really well however, because of the size there's some considerable noise that comes with it. I don't think it has anything to do with the motor but more so the air intake, it's not terrible but you do notice it but then again it is a giant skimmer. I'll add that its really well built too and looks great!

Vertex omega no noise pulls out black coffee looking skimate worth the money for sure and built incredibly well

I have the same tank.
I use a Nyos Quantum 160 and have been very happy with it.

The "show off your reefer" thread is here.

Deltec SC 1456 - Id recommend the 1455 over the 1456 (the AC one versus the DC one) as there have been some issues with the DC pumps. But the skimmer itself is great. No break in time, no adjustments... it just works.

Nyos 160 here... dead silent and pulls mad gunk. Looks sexy too... if you care.

Just purchased my reefer 525XL yesterday, ordered an Aquamaxx coneS CO-1 today

There are a lot of great skimmers out there. I have a Deltec on my current Red Sea. Looking at the Nyos 160 or Bubble Magus 7 for my upcoming red sea build (525 or 625, havent decided yet).

If you go with a Deltec, definitely agree with this post. Purchased a DC version 2 years ago, and went through 3 pumps in the first year. Marine Depot seems to be the only provider of Deltec in the US now, and I don't even see DC versions on their website, unless I'm missing them. Probably for the best until they get their DC pump failure issue resolved.

The Nyos 160 recommends a sump water height of 8-10". The sump water height in the Reefer 525 is listed at 10.6". Is the Reefer 525 sump water height close enough to the Nyos recommended height range or will I need to put some kind of platform under the Nyos to raise it to within the recommended range?

For the 1st few months I put a silicon pad under my Nyos 160 to raise it just a little and help with any vibration noise.
Now I don't use anything under it and it works just fine. I can tune it to skim dry or wet.
