60 Cube with Algae Turf Scrubber

Nice growth. I got to say im obsessed with my ats. Might want to keep an eye on potassium mine drops a lot. Usually im dosing it monthly back up to 410ppm from 360ppm.

Fts?

Santa monica, I didnt know algae consume alkalinity.

Yes, algae needs carbon, and since CO2 is slow to enter water, fast-growing algae gets carbon from the alk. A strong scrubber can reduce alk by 1 point per day.

I can confirm this as well, it's been discussed quite a bit on the algae scrubbing related forums.

Some people have tried infusing CO2 into the influent water to see if that changes things, or putting the effluent from a calcium reactor into the scrubber, etc. Also placing the scrubber intake pump next to the effluent from a skimmer (which infuses air, a mixture of O2 and CO2).

The latter is one of the reasons why it make sense to put a skimmer first. The other method is scrubber first so it gets crack at the dirtiest water first, it's kind of just a preference IMO, at least that's what makes sense

What's going on if your scrubber just suddenly stops growing .... I'm going thru this now , the algae just stop growing .. Everything is same , feeding constantly even have more fish . Use to have to harvest algae weekly , but now they are just not growing. Sps still happy, readings are stable .
Something else is taking up the phos and the trates??

Are you getting better growth in your SPS with the ATS? How's your pod population?

Ive always had good growth what I dont have a problem with is high NO3 & PO3.

I would also just try injecting CO2 gas directly into the air inside scrubber box and see what happens.

I forgot to answer you question about PODs, I dont know because my African Leopard Wrasse & Pin Tail Wrasse eat everything that they see.

Not sure I'd try that... could have problems. It probably needs a monitor and feedback systems.

Here are some corals that I picked up.

What I was getting at is that (and I may be wrong here, so I hope this isn't taken the wrong way) but the point of that thread was not to teach people how to take awesome looking pics (although, I have a T3i as well nad would like to be able to make the corals look better than they actually look too!!) but rather to explain why you see a pic and then get the coral and they don't look the same.

lets see the pics of the corals colored up
