6500k T5 Bulbs - Important Spectrums Missing in LEDs?

All that I know is that the best of the best tanks, and the ocean, use lights (MH and T5) that have these wavelengths. Coincidence... probably not.

Why not use Plasma then? Even closer to the suns spectrum than metal halides.

I believe @BoomCorals went from sb reeflight, to kessil, to halide/t5 and is getting better results now.

Thanks! Those are great tanks! Really like it when people allow the corals to grow for a while.

But a quick search on Instagram gives plenty of reef tanks like that, with LEDs. Specially Asian tanks, Singapore for example has a lot of great reef tanks it seems like.

Maybe there's another reason than the type of light why most tanks don't look like that on R2R today?

Seems like every asian tank I see with LEDs is running lots of the panel style fixtures. That's the approach I took... two 32" sb reef lights with thick diffusion acrylic over a 36x36 cube. It looks like a T5 tank.

In the case of Kessils, they were'nt used long enough to figure out much of anything but that was the only light I followed along with.

In closing, the Kessil AP700 appears to be well built and has many features that make it appealing. I am now using one of these luminaires over my display aquarium (mounted about 2" above the water surface and a setting of #2 for maximum PUR) and am impressed with the color mixing and spectral characteristics, especially with some of the corals displaying fluorescence. It is not inexpensive (as lights in this class tend to be.) A careful review of information presented here might help determine if this luminaire is right for you.

Here is the Custom Helio spectra LX4 too. Easy to turn into a similar pattern if you want - all wavelengths are there - just to set.

I use GHL Mitras LED Bar 2 of different reasons - one is that I get a rather a uniform distribution of light, One other is that they work with RGB LED in order to get a white light even if you use a heavy blue schedule and no white LEDs

The pictures below show first full blast - calculated 14 000 K
Whites include 10 pcs 4500 K , 32 pcs 6500 K and 43 pcs 8000 K. -

Number 2 4500 K absent (calculated 15 300 K) and Number 3 4500 K and 6500 K absent (calculated 17600 K)

Number 4 No white LEDs at all - only blue (43 pc 455 nm, 33 425 nm, 22 pcs 450 nm and 176 small RGB LED calculated 21250 K)
Number 5 Only RGB LED (calculated 7500 K)

Normally I run all for 4 hours (number 1) and blue + RGB for 8 hours (number 4)

No, it's perfectly valid.. Can't count the times someone said things like.. "I switched from this to that.." only to find out it was because his wife hated the way it looks..or "I couldn't use the software" ect.
BLANKET statements or others using someone as a "source".. well better have a "documented" reason for it..

It's COMMON SENSE to question a statement that was orig backed w/ zero proof.. right?
Even if the "proof" is theoretical..

I'm not bashing, just prodding..

I hesitate to jump in the middle of this, but @BoomCorals makes a living growing and selling coral. I highly doubt he would change lighting because he got some free bulbs or his wife didn't like it. Being a vendor I assume he didn't jump in guns blazing as to not alienate any potential customers.

Bottom line, a professional in the industry is having better results with halide and t5 and it seems like you just don't like that and imo are being quite rude about it.

I was trying to avoid getting into the larger debate. I tested lights specifically all around 300-350 PAR specifically. I paid for all my lights I tested. I received nothing free.

Of course you do understand that commercial vs home enjoyment has a different set of parameters..

Yea and some growers push 6500k or real sunlight but display and sell in a completely different environment..

I have plenty of beefs w/ LED people .. Like Kessil insisting that you can't use PAR
meters for their lights.. like some magic photons are there or something..

Or inferior quality of diodes.
I don't think MH's deserve any special treatment..

Of pure interest from me - @BoomCorals - did your LEDs contain much wavelengths over 600 nm and especially - over 700 nm?
