So I am building a 65g breeder with a 40g sump and a 20g overhead refugium. I need helping figuring out a balance livestock list in order to utilize the space (all the levels of the tank) the tank is 36 * 18 * 25.. I prefer non aggressive fish but I am open to any suggestion since I am new to the hobby and my knowledge is limited. Researching is getting overwhelming!!! :eek: Thanks

Fish for the upper levels: Anthias, such as dispars or randall's, dartfish such as zebra and scissortail, green chromis, grammistes blenny, yellow assessor;

near the sand: watchmen gobys, rainsford or hectori goby;

lower half of water column: firefish, cardinals;

all over the water; fairy, flasher, and Halichoeres wrasses;

near the rocks; Chrysiptera damsels, royal gramma, peaceful dottybacks

Royal grammas are dottybacks and very aggressive with conspecifics! Pls keep them separate.
With three tanks inline (great way to keep equipment costs down), you might consider 2 or 3 predators with soft corals in the large tank, Apogon reef with interesting colorful inverts in the 20g. If your fuge will be displayed, check out the macroalgae forums/videos. Spectacular, healthy additions to any system.

Defently keeping corals also. I also need advice on that subject

Thanks for the help guys this is already helping me so much.

Love those fish "eatbreakfast" Thanks. "yarddoctor" thanks for the ideas.

I guess I should also mention that I have mostly all black sand and a black background but I think most of those fish mention above will look great with that contrast

Incorrect. Royal grammas are basslets not dottybacks, and while dottybacks are aggressive with congenerics, there will be no issue between peaceful species, such as elongatus dottybacks and royal grammas, they are not closely related.

I'm liking the idea of moving my 29 g cube next to my 60 g display and tying the sump to both. It would solve a lot of my automation issues with the cube. I just thought it would look weird being so different in size. Any pics of your set up Alexreef?

I have a sketch. I just broke down my last set up and rebuilding this one as we speak. The top tank will be 15-20 gallon. The middle display tank 65g and the button sump 40g the 65 and the 40 breeder are the same dimension apart from the height. My stand will stick out farther back so the sump can fit in between the frame plus it will allowed the returns to have more of a straight shot up with less restriction. I am setting on wheels as well and building it out of 4*4. I know it's not nessesary but I figure what the heck. I am also thinking of sealing it with liquid rubber to water proof it plus it will make the sump area flood proof.

Are you using two separate pumps to return water to the top and middle or tee-ing off one?

2 pumps. One for the middle and one for the top. Each pump pluming split in to two.. So 4 returns

I just sketch this really quick to give you a better Idea.

What do you think? I have no idea if it's a good idea, to be honest.

And of course I will install shutoff valves to regulate pressure as such.

Wow. I've always used 1 return and one overflow at opposite ends for my 40b and my current 60.[emoji33]
