6k Setup and Still Issues...

Update: I was just informed Absolutely Fish and their M1 employees recommend Dino X.

Hopefully this helps ease the minds of the Chemical paranoia as we await a verdict.

Update: I bought out the inventory of 3 emerald crabs, 1 blood shrimp, and 10 nessarius snails. I’m excited for the nessarius snails because the dinos have been focused on the sand. I think this will help clean the sandbed.

I am shocked of how poorly stocked the store has been lately. All things considered, 8/10 experience.

Regarding the above

Scientists were going to look at the pics you posted from the microscope, since actions are to be species-specific considering the advice to only undertake measures for your tank that come from one person's approach and not a random amalgamation of approaches as a total experiment.

how are we doing in that department

I would argue it’s not a random algmatation but an assortment of tactics in the strategy of lowering resources such as nutrients and light coupled with chemical treatment.

In essence, their employees recommended the same. “Kill lights and dose Dino X.”

I press on.

In addition...you seem to advocate the use of dino x...you don’t happen to be affiliated with the manufacturer???

You seem to be set with you reefing ways and seems to be working (so you claim [emoji3166]) so .... im out :)

Good luck!

No, what do I look like, a scientist?

Course of action has been a 3 day blackout, copepod/phyto dosing, and Dino x. There are virtually no Dino’s in my tank right now. I can see very, very small remnants if I press my head to the glass and squint at the sand.

All in all, treatment seems to be working and other than the Dino X, nothing I’ve done otherwise would be really damaging to the tank.

Adding pods is never a bad thing a blackout is relatively benign.

Full disclosure, I am associated with a chemical company that is a minor link in Fauna Marin’s value chain.

My thoughts are my own.

Contradictory advice aside, everyone can agree that posting a picture from a cheap microscope for the experienced people to identify is a good idea

It wouldn’t make a difference, I see no evidence to support that limiting resources is not an effective form of treatment against any common dinoflagellate.

Is there a specific strain where my strategy would fail? The chemical treatment is an added to precaution, as stated multiple times.

What was your inclination in a guarantee it's even dino's?

What was your inclination in a guarantee it's even dino's?

The snotty stringy appearance and the tell tale bubbles that spawned from it.

I’m virtually positive those were no diatoms.

So I just added the shrimps and the fish seem very angry about their introduction. All fish are circling the shrimps and flaring their fins or bodies in their faces. The coral branded has even tried to bite.

Any thoughts on this? I’ve never seen this before or considered an issue, since I have all reefe safe fish.

I've actually never experienced that. Added peppermint shrimp before and after the initial inspection by the fish they went on about their business.

It looks as if the one flame angel is obsessed with being cleaned. He keeps rotating between the blood shrimp and coral branded shrimp.

I noticed he has some damage to his tail fin.

Dino X markets itself as a treatment, why would I not use it on my tank?

ROFL you’re a sales person dream. Holistic medicine markets itself to cure cancer and everything else under the sun too. A dozen different companies sell “reef safe” ich cures we all know don’t work.

Question

Why is it everyone with the answers here isn't posting in the giant dinos thread curing tanks

Don't get angry at the question but isn't that really the only true meter

Thread where five hundred people ask for help daily, five posters run it.

Thread where one poster wants help, several completely opposing options for pages...

Dinos are obligate hitchhikers. Common associates with new tanks are cyano and gha, not invasive strain dinos

Where you source from gets you dinos and not any other cause.

The potential to take over regardless of advice exists when they hitchhike in, not when the tank is new or old. Never limit interception to a certain age of your tank, you're either dealing with an invader where a very restricted group can control it or not.

Maybe it’s just me being cynical me. Or because I also did the same but it’s 100% the title. Everyone here was drawn into the thread by the OP because they seem to anticipate that money spent is entirely a threshold whether they’d have problems common to the hobby or not. So everyone came with popcorn.

Fauna Marin is a reputable company, known for quality products. Additionally, the product has overwhelming positive reviews on BRS and the retailers I checked.

Also, virtually all YouTube reviews I could locate where positive.

I offer my experience to those skeptical as well.

So far, it seems to be working.

Take a look at this sobering thread, which was made by the hobbyists whose tanks most likely inspired you to get into the game.

Update:

Some additional updates I’m making to the tank. I’m removing the filter sock; I don’t change them often enough and according to Randy Holmes Farley, I’d be better of meeting that detritus collect on the live rock and sand bed.

I also just bought a NYOS Torq 1.0 so after the 10th prescribed dose I can run granulated carbon to remove much of the Dino X quickly and efficiently. I also think this will help to increase flow, which is important since I am not/have not effectively been using a filter sock.

The Torq media reactor was something I was planning on adding regardless.
