Let me know what flows like with a surge. I really hope I can get away with 2 of these pumps. CoralVue told me I would need to turn the 4’s way down

Ok. I finally got some time to play with the pumps.

My original setting was SPS reef, max 85% and allows reverse.

Switched it to the sine setting with a nutrient export after 4hrs at 100%.

So far, getting less polyp extension on the few SPS I have in the tank. I'll give you more of an update in a few days.

Ok. I finally got some time to play with the pumps.

So both are going at 100% for a bit? Flow look strong at that setting?

Yep, both going 100% for about 5 mins. I actually set it then went about my day and forgot to try and see the nutrient export in action!

I'll trigger it manually tonight and see what it does.

Flow on at 100% was strong. It was enough to knock down a coral that wasn't glued down.

That being said, this is my first real attempt at a SPS dominant tank so I can't say for sure if the two of them will be enough for that. I did notice even at 100% I still had a couple of dead spots. So I will need to play around with the placement of them.

I'm still leaning towards needing at least one more powerhead. But we'll see!

Tank has landed… organizing a delivery shortly. Time to lay down my new flooring then get to plumbing and running wires

Tank has been delivered… yikes it’s heavy. GlassCages build a solid tank here. 3/4” glass, nice bevels, overflow is solid. Still need to add some plywood to my stand to take a rimless tank, and as soon as that’s done and painted, the leveling mat goes down, then the tank gets put on the stand. Also need to start mapping out plumbing… have (2) 1” drain holes in the overflow so will be doing Herbie, and (2) 3/4” holes in the back for return lines. Will likely be doing a 1” return line to a T, with 3/4” reducers and piping to the bulkheads. Going to be a fun build… been a long wait, but it’s here

Due to the fact that I originally planned on getting a plastic braced aquarium, and ended up with an all glass rimless, my stand had to be modified with a 3/4” piece of plywood. Got her cut to size and sprayed with epoxy appliance paint. Going to be putting the leveling mat directly on top of the stand. I also cut a piece out to add to the bottom of the stand for my sump and ATO res to sit on. Hoping to have it set up to start plumbing by this weekend or next…

Tank is on the stand and the build has begun. Dry fit drain lines. Not thrilled about the light mount rail, may get single arm mounts for the back of the tank.

-Finish fitting and glue plumbing
-Map our control board

Few more steps and I should be good to get her filled. I’m redoing my plumbing schematic a tick to make the emergency drain a bit more out of the way and significantly more of a downward drop with no 90° elbows or horizontal runs, will just have 2 45° bends to get it to where it needs to go. Still need to purchase salt and since I’m doing Full Triton Method I’ll be using Red Sea Salt blue bucket since it most closely matches parameters of that dosing program. Switched out the AI arm mounts as well, I like the singles way better than the rail.

Final plumbing schematic. Pretty happy with how it came out… time for glue. Will be adding a second pump to the return chamber and plumbing in a 2 head manifold for a UV and the carbon reactor.

Got her filled up and scaped. Couple more adjustments and I think it will be solid. No leaks in the plumbing, got the pump and drain adjusted for a full siphon. Need to lower a couple sump baffles to quiet things down a tick and free up some backflow space.

What are your plans for your refugium area? I have a light on mine that runs opposite of the display lights, but all it does is grow gha there instead of the display. I'm starting to look into ideas on how to better use the space.

Did you stick with the octo pulse 2 or add something else for a bit more flow?

I grow chaeto very well in my Biocube, primarily due to a heavy feeding hand and a good nutrient level. I’ll have a nice softball size ball to start out with in my new tank once I’m ready for it.

Awesome. Where do you grow the chaeto in your biocube? I have a IM25 that I always struggle to keep nutrients under control in, but right now no real place to grow chaeto or anything like it.
