75 gallon GlassCages build

What sort of cuc do you have in the tank? I'm slowly adding more to mine.
Lot of it died off when I had Dino’s, but about 5-6 nassarius snails, probably 3-4 hermit crabs, couple turbo snails, and 3-4 other snails, maybe Margherita’s? I dunno… oh, and a tuxedo urchin that does the most work of them all. Adding a couple emerald crabs this week. I do need to pack some more snails in there though soon.

Sounds like I really need an urchin. Have you found any issues with hermits killing snails for their shells?

Yes, you need an urchin. Been saying this a while :)

Yes, hermits take my snails out frequently. As my hermits die I don’t replace them, snails do a better job IME.

Took me a few weeks but finally got my kalk dosing dialed in. Every 30 mins from 9:30pm-9:30am my pump doses about 75ml of solution. Was originally dosing too much and went over evap rate. Then I was dosing way too little and PH was around 8.15, and my ATO was going off frequently. With the current dosing, the ATO is still going off 2-3 times nightly, but not enough to feel the need to make any more adjustments to my pump. PH holding at 8.24-8.25 during that night cycle, and holding that as well during the day with the fuge light on opposite schedule.

Lookin like a pro over here or something. Even got the cartoon fish on the wall and everything
Tank art is very important in my house :)
I commissioned a really good artist for a painting above my Biocube…

Not the best pic. I’m enjoying this Kalkwasser dosing. I may or may not try to burn through the Triton Core 7 I have left, I am thinking I want to change to ESV. We will see…

How do you like the Hydros Auto feeder? Just got my hydros X4 and XP8 and looking to add on to it.
I like it, it’s the first feeder I’ve ever had so nothing to compare it to, but it’s worked well and I can’t complain. Definitely very easy to set up and change settings with the Hydros collective. Feeds 4 times from 10:00am-4:00pm.

Assuming your return pump kicks off every time it feeds?

Negative, I just schedule my power heads to a very slow constant, I think like 20%. I have a regulator cup that allows the pellets to get waterlogged and then they sink. Without the cup, the food goes directly into the overflow which is why I had the cup notched into my lid. Here’s a stock pic of it… feeder just drops food right into it.

That's great. Have any exciting future plans for the tank?
Maybe 2-3 more torches, few more sticks up top, then probably start adding some filler zoas here and there. Should grow out nicely (hopefully)

Have been keeping my eye on my chaeto and sump. Started with a bit of cyano on the top of the algae, and it ended up spreading quite a bit over the top. I ended up removing the top “layer” of chaeto to get the cyano out of there, and bumped up flow through the sump to help keep things moving. Hoping that will keep it at bay. Certainly don’t mind a little cyano, but it seemed like it was preventing a lot of light from getting the chaeto. My NO3 and PO4 both got a bit higher than I’m comfortable with these days. Don’t know if it’s coincidental, but definitely wanted to take action on that situation. I’ve used ChemiClean on this tank before and ended up with dino’s shortly after. Not necessarily the cause, but just don’t want to use it again any time soon unless I really lock in best post-treatment actions.

Anyways, I have about 40 lbs of CO2 scrubber media coming in this week, and also have ESV B-Ionic calcium buffer system arriving as well. Pulling Triton Method fully off this tank. I’ll still rely on ICP tests, and will fine tune dosing from there.

Awesome. I'm hoping to get some torches once my tank is back on track. Are you all stocked on fish?

Why the switch off of Triton? I picked up some ESV B-Ionic as well. I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting for my red sea stuff to run out before switching. I have heard good things about it though

I’d say I’m about stuffed on fish- I may add a dragonette of some sort down the road once pods are plentiful.

Not too sure what inspired the switch from Triton, but to be honest I’m not too fond of their platform. They’re very secretive about their contents of the system, then you send an ICP test out which is essentially another way to sell some elements down the road. Which, I understand not wanting to broadcast their recipes, but when it comes down to asking them general questions about what each part contains their lips are sealed I’ve found. From my perspective, I’d rather support a company like ESV who has responded in detail to my questions I’ve had so far and will help the user understand the why’s and how’s. Just my experience so far.

That's too bad. Although most things seem to be ways to sell you more down the road. Let me know how the ESV stuff goes. I have the 2 part, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm waiting for the red sea to run out... or at least the red sea alk and then I will do a big switch out.
