80° temp

I hear you about the eel. I had a snowflake for 11 years that slipped out through an opening considerably smaller than the eel's diameter. Either that, or it pushed the lid out of the way, IDK.
How about making one or two plastic frames with screen and fasten it to the hinge on existing cover?

There is other options that haven't been discussed. Canopy is one. Open top canopy with computer fans blowing air in. Can screen the top if needed. Keeps the eel in and allows for air exchange.

The one I saw wouldnt fit because of my hang on overflow and return pipe

I had the same problem on a tank I used to have, I took the plastic peices off the back of the glass lids and supported them with some small pieces of plastic so they would stay in place on their own. Then I just made the screen cover to fit right up to them

Alright guys. My hubby looked at some of the DIY screens and the custom made plastic types online. He has designed a screen top. Hes using lexan and clear screen from brs. My screen comes Thursday so it will be on my tank by Friday. Thank you all for the help. Btw if my glass canopy is left open my tank drops to 78° so its DEFINITELY the issue. Plus summer coming. So we are also getting a fan for it. Thank you all I'll upload pictures friday

I would consider using a mesh screen top not only does it allow more light through to your corals but will allow air & heat to release.

The only downside to mesh top would be faster evaporation so keep that in mind.

Temps have been climbing a bit and reached 81.5 the other day so I repositioned my fans to blow straight down on the water. Rather than across. Temp at the end of the 7 hour photoperiod was 79.1....DOWN from 79.4 when the photoperiod started. I may be the only person in the heat of the south who actually had lower temps during a halide photoperiod than during the dark, and without a chiller. Evaporative cooling is no joke.

Alright well it didnt fix my problem. My tank is at 83° with screen. Is my jebao return pump causing heat??? This is ridiculous. My fish are fine my anemone is weird right now. My heater is now put of my sump. It was at 74°.... im looking into a chiller now which i can not afford. Hubby ordered fans we are installing our window unit early. We have a brand new central air. But in the summer it still reachs 80-90 in my house.

Switch to an external return pump. A 60 watt submersed pump puts up to 60W of heat all the time into the water.
I finally figured it out. My heater is bad. This is my 3rd issue with aqueon heaters. 2 were from not heating my qt. Now my aqueon pro over heated my tank.

Get a Eheim heater, but double check temp. Use a pail of water to check
