Ended up pulling both clowns to QT today. Will adjust QT setup/location as needed..


Mel, Lawnmower, YWG+Pistol and others in DT now don't appear to know anything is happening..

So, just a thought. What are your future plans? Will you go full quarantine for each fish/invert/coral in the future? If you're going that route then you'll need to treat the remaining fish and go fallow. Or are you planning to treat and return to the rest?

I don't qt. I carefully choose and hope for the best. But I have fully researched the other side.

I love pondering..

Our best case, if it's an option, is treat the sick, return to DT, and all can live happily thereafter together..

But only if thats viable. I do know the fallow is the only way to rid the disease..

Lots of learning this week.. necessity is the mother of invention they say.

Can I ask where did you get the tang from? Lfs? I know that was about a month ago. Other than that I'm not sure how whatever it is got in the tank. We have test kits for everything, we need one for diseases.

I thought to ask since you've got a few "healthy" fish still in dt.

I chose ich management in my own tanks. I buy carefully, buy in person so I can evaluate. When it's a fish for the main tank I do have them in a separate tank just for observation for a week or so. If they eat and still look clear then it's in the dt. I really only do this on my main tank since it's the most populated and I have the most to loose in that tank. I have a UV that I run during observation, just in case of free swimming anything. Once in tanks I have good water and a healthy varied diet that hopefully is able to assist the fish with it's natural defenses. A also have a cleaner shrimp that loves to inspect all new things, fish especially and if the fish allows, will clean them.

I just couldn't justify the dedicated space for qt'ing all fish, invert, coral, rock. But would I flop if I suddenly got something bad in there, yeah, probably.

Nope i think you're totally right. I agree calm is healthy.

LFS yes, I was talking to them and had been looking for "one more fish" ( ), on my list was Tomini, White Tail, possibly a Coral Beauty. The white tail came in their next shipment a few hours later, they separated her for me and I picked up in the AM. Probably was swimming in Tahiti a few days prior...

I'm exactly in the same boat with QT. Especially with moving twice, I've been just trying to buy healthy fish and not QT, now I'm like, man I should QT lol..

That's 100% my take with my understanding of it as well. Possibly the addition of the tang caused stress in the tank, bringing out some underlying ich.. Making QT irrelevant in this case lol.

The tang itself is the most confusing, it's like she just finished a lap and ate some nori and fell over, then everything began, but not prior.. She was in for 5 weeks.

Hey Team, well the battle continues. Lost the larger clown and 2 of the 3 cardinals thus far. Lawnmower showed negative signs yesterday, this morning was very easy to snag and move to QT. The 3 in there are hanging on but not looking fantastic.

In the DT, wrasse, YWG and pistol shrimp still seem OK today.

Last night the wife talked me into a dose of API Melafix to the DT, because why not.. Which immediately freaked out my skimmer.. ayyee

i feel for you... losing a lot of fish is tough, not sure how many you lost, i lost 9 to velvet. i really hope that you dont lose any more.

Thanks, it is disheartening for sure. Down 6 from this, 7 if you count the Firefish that jumped just prior. + 2 fish rough in QT. + 2 fish and a pistol shrimp remain OK at this point.

The Lawnmower that was moved to QT earlier did not make it.

Strange part is it does not present like any of the common diseases, Ich, Brook, Velvet etc. It appears to Jay as a version of Ich "stale ich" he calls it, but doesn't have any of the traditional symptoms that I can tell. The small clown had some white on him initially but it looked more like fading than parasites. The larger clown only showed cloudy eyes before the end. Or stress? But the tang was in for 5 weeks and nothing happened until the tang went first..

I keep thinking it feels something like a strange bacterial infection from the tang, etc. I'm not an expert..

I'm sorry for your losses. nothing sucks more then staring at the tank scratching your head wondering what the what.

One thing I do know is whatever this is doesn't have any effect on bristle worms (lol)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Even poor tank looks so sad. I hope the losses end and you can get them back to health!
