Seems like a long time in copper. Could it be HLLE or what hippo tangs develop if in copper too long. It wouldn't be the reason it was lying on its side though.
I didn’t know copper was related to HLLE. But I have stripped most out already. Hopefully this is not the case, but I agree it’s most likely not the reason he’s in his side.
this poor little fella is still fighting! His eyes are working just fine and he’s aware. He’s still laying on the bottom but after some advice from humble fish and his forum I've tried the following:
Treated qt with General cure (prazi pro/metro)
Treated with kanaplex and fraun2.
he was in there with no improvement for about 7 hours.
I was then pointed to this:
Reposted with permission. @alprazo Salvage protocol for very sick fish. Almost daily I read a post from someone describing a fish sick from either ich or velvet and can predict that it will not make it to the morning. There are several techniques that can be employed to reduce the metabolic...

I have since moved him to a new qt tank with sponge and air pump at 1.015 salinity, no heater, no lights and covered tank on three sides and top to keep dark.
I have tried my hardest to obtain oxygen but everywhere is closed. And no luck on the dexamethasone either.
he’s been in the new tank for a few hours and still laying down but is starting to try to swim and move fins and look around more. A slight improvement.
I still think his chances are slim. But if he’s still hanging on in the morning I’m going to get the dexamethasone and oxygen and keep trying.
but I have to say he is a fighter. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fish in his condition hang on so long so even if only a 1% chance I’m gonna try.
I agree. I highly doubt it’s ick or velvet.
They went it QT 5/20/21 at 2.5 ppm per Hanna checker. I added the 6line wrasse and powder brown on 5/30/21 and started 30 days over.
On 7/2/21 I started running carbon to remove the copper. This is a slow process, so the plan was to start general cure this Friday- provided it tested copper free (or mostly) to avoid bacterial bloom.
but black ick isn’t affected by copper. And that’s what I believe it may be.
He hasn’t eaten since I found him yesterday. After the FW dip he started looking a lot better regarding his color.
Right now he’s in the new qt tank still and I added methylene blue.
he’s still not right but some slight signs of improvement. For sure more active and seems stronger then Yesterday.
I’ll keep at it and see if he improves. I was able to get an oxygen tank- I’m picking up a regulator in a few min off offer up, and should have pure oxygen in the water soon.
my hopes at this will help him breath a little easier with less effort so he can have more energy To heal. I don’t know that will work, but figured it can’t hurt.
He tries. Yesterday when I found him there was no movement. Just breathing. By last night he was moving fins. Today he is able to move his body and was “swimming” on his side on the bottom. But can’t turn straight or get off bottom.
all along his eyes are moving, and he seems aware of what’s going on around him. Even more so today.
paralyzed is a good way to explain it, I just have no idea what caused it. Day before he looked fine and all other fish look fine still. Idk.
