A new beginning....Red Sea Reefer 350

Well yeah...really thought about taking a break after my JBJ45 cracked but realized I am too addicted to this hobby now.

Just placed an order on Red Sea Reefer 350.

Will keep you guys updated on the progress here on this new post

Any reason you chose the 350 over the 425 XL? Looking forward to seeing your build!

I think two 30's would be a lot better for 4 feet of coverage. The 350 is 20 inches front to back isn't it? I feel like you'd lose a lot of light trying to use only two 15s.

According to Ecotech, the 15's will give 24" of light spread, but that sounds optimistic to me. Maybe check the Reefer thread to see what similar builds used?

Agree... heading over to a friend to check his reefer 350 and his set up. That would be the best to learn from someone who already has one up and running

Just a small update. "PART 1"

I decided to go slow as I will need to cycle the tank first, there's no need to purchase equipment that I will not need for the next few months so I've decided to purchase only the essential items for now.

I would appreciate some feedback and comments, from RedSea Reefer owner and others, on the items I have selected to get this system started. This is what makes this site great! I've learned and shared so much with you guys and that is what a reefing community should be all about.

Tank: Red Sea Reefer 350 black
Lighting: ATI 36" 8X39W dimmable sunpower T5, might add reef brite led, prime HD, kessil 160 on each corner or replace a couple bulbs with E5 lamps
Return Pump: Ecotech Vectra M1DC
Circulation Pump: Ecotech Vortech MP40WQD X2
Sand: Caribsea Hawaiian Black 40lb (want to keep under 1") or go bare bottom
Rocks: Recycle about 20 lb from my old tank (seeding purpose) and add another 20 lb dry rock, aiming for minimalist aquascape
Skimmer: Vertex Omega 150
Heaters: 300W
Marine Pure ceramic biomedia 8X8X4... leach aluminum?

Everything else will be listed on "PART 2" which will include plumbing, auto top off, reactors, dosing pump, UV sterilizer and controllers. Would love to hear your opinions on this as well before hands

I initially thought about going with the 4' fixtures but I don't really see the need to cover the corners as I am probably going to keep open for fish to swim. Thanks for commenting

I would go 48!!! You don't want the sides to seem unevenly dark. Heres my 350

Wow, is that an ATI? what bulb combo are you using, any other supplement lighting source added? Could you send me pictures of your sump as well. Thanks for commenting!
