A "Newbie" And His Anemones

I try not to use the word "cute" conversationally. But, this is just freaking cute.

The first thing I do when I get home from work everyday is head straight to the room where this tank is located.

I check the floor for water. When I determine that the floor is dry, I exhale.

I look around the tank to see how the "babies" are doing. Given that everyone looks okay, I try to figure out which ones I have left out of the feeding rotation for the week.

It occurred to me today that there are a couple of the "babies" that I have left out. Not so much left out of the feeding rotation, but left out of the spotlight (I have not posted their mugshots on R2R, as of yet.). How thoughtless of me.

To set this straight, here are a couple of new likenesses.

This is NOT one of my favorite anemones. Hence, my tendency to NOT point the camera (cell phone) in its direction very often. I do hope I have not hurt its feelings.

This one "browned out" a bit a while back (presumably due to my prior dosing of vinegar?). It is coloring back up, but this is taking a LONG time.

This is a pretty small anemone. It is usually hidden from view by a larger anemone. Today, the larger anemone "went to bed early." So, I was able to get this picture. It is proof positive that a decent looking anemone need not cost a fortune.

And, because anemone mouths are so attractive...or something.

I love metal halides. But, there is one thing I don't like about my current implementation of them. That is, my lighting schedule.

When I leave for work, the halides have not yet come on. When I get home from work, the halides are already off. So, during the week, all I get to see of the tank is something that is far too blue for my liking.

In some instances, attempting to take pictures when the halides are off results in some pretty strange looking pictures.

Or, is that an extremely rare, never before seen, electric blue bubble-tip anemone?!?!?

Or this...

This fish is attempting to say, "Hey, please don't take my picture without the halides on. I have a nasty reputation to uphold. You will present me as a SMURF to the world."

"Okay. I'm really NOT sorry that I ate your blue damsel."
