A Reefer's electric bill!

Luckily, I've had a tank the entire time my wife and I dated. She knows nothing else. :)

No convincing. I've been keeping fish tanks for 26 years. I've been with my wife for 14. Its part of who I am and she recognizes that.

With more power friendly equipment she is happy that we only spend $50 instead of the $100 a month (with MH and a CL) on electricity.

The wife has two tanks, and so do I lol. I run halides/T5's/LEDs on mine however, and she is LEDs/T5's. Muahahahaha

I sold my house and moved in with my wife when we got married almost three years ago. Her electric bill went up 90.00 a month. So can't keep that a secret.

My wife keeps the house AC on 72 degrees so I blame it on her. We also have 3 kids that refuse to turn off any lights ever.

Our electric bill in the winter months is around $60 total... That is with the fish tank as well as all electronics and such used during the day by my wife (stay at home mom). In the summer with window mounted AC units, the electric bill will jump up to around $150 during the hottest months.

In the winter the tank acts like a radiant heater. Our heat NEVER runs. In the summer, I let the tank get a bit hotter to avoid the increase in humidity due to evaporative cooling. This causes the AC units to run more, but they run more efficient with the lower humidity levels...

It also helps that I run LED wherever possible. I have my light cycle set in such a way that the daylights are on powerful for only 2 hours with the other2 hours for up and down ramping. The Actinics are on for 10 hours total but ramp way down in the evening.

I keep the AC set to 70, but it keeps the house at around 72 - 74 depending on the room...

You can solve the issue with the kiddos by installing motion detection switches ;)

I moved into a new place back in October and upgraded my tank at the same time. I went from a 6 bulb T5 to 2 400w MH with 4T5's and LED strip. So I have no idea what my bill would be like without it. Which is just the way I like it!

It's a monthly battle, deal with a little complaining around that time every month. But how you guys are under $200 a month is baffling to me, I'm over double that and have no A/C. Granted I do have a shark tank as well as a few others, but still! I hate the electric bill, I want solar and lots of it.

My electric bill is never short of 180-200. In my old apt<-- was just me it was 80-100. Add kids and more electronics to the mix lol.

You guy call that an electricity Bill? My Bill run from $450-550 and that is without running AC (good thing i live near the Beach where it's cool) - i ran 3 tanks and now down to 2. I really need Solar but keep putting it off. It help a lot when i switch to Edison evening/Off peak program
