A Reefer's electric bill!

You guy call that an electricity Bill? My Bill run from $450-550 and that is without running AC (good thing i live near the Beach where it's cool) - i ran 3 tanks and now down to 2. I really need Solar but keep putting it off. It help a lot when i switch to Edison evening/Off peak program

Must be a California thing, I'm right in that same range... Lucky people all over the rest of the US! lol

My bill when I use to live in San Diego would run any were from 450-650 a month I moved to knoxville and have more tanks and went from pc lighting to 2x400 watt mh for lighting and run the a/c in summer 24 7 and my bill was 150 at its highest it's crazy how much more for less use it was out west

I'm in western ky. I wish mine was in the $150's with my halides! Lol

interesting thread :) our bill is in the 300's range in the winter and about 200 in the summer. We have an all electric house. I know that with my sump running and extra power the new tank is probably about 40 or so of that....

My wife wont be happy because my aquarium is going upstairs and we don't run the AC/Heat upstairs unless we are using that part of the house. When the aquarium arrives I will have to run the heat and air constantly to maintain the temperature. Our bill will go up due to the aquarium and the AC.

We are in central Indiana our electricity runs 200-300 nth depending on season but that is 4 kids 3 adults and 4 tanks lol no one can complain considering each adult has a tank ok me I have two lol

Jeeze! I thought we were going to talk about how much the actual reef tank costs in electricity per month. My house bill costs as little as $250 a month in the summer and up to $400 a month in the cold winters. If I run Christmas lights outside it jumps up another $100 in December. :)

Mine is happy with it as long as she doesn't see water on the floor. Our monthly electric bill is right around $65in the summer and $40in the winter.

My bill contains electricity, water, cable, internet and garbage so it would take some exploring for my wife to tell exactly how much it is. I wouldn't mind as I can't really see much difference since I got the tank (155 gallon). Probably because of the size of our house. Electricity part runs $150-250 depending on the season. The pump from my pond to irrigate the yard/flower beds is the biggest user of electricity at my house. The tank pales in comparison.

More efficient pumps, LED lighting, combining pump functions, selling the chiller since it was no longer needed and switching the main lighting to an off peak power period helped a bunch! Between those and things like an insulated garage door, thermopane windows, extra blown in insulation in the attic, T-8 and CFL lighting with electronic ballasts and a 2 speed pool pump cut my power bills by $100 a month in winter and $200 in summer months. Every upgrade was paid for within 2 years which is a good payback period to me.

Exactly, I can attribute 90.00 in electric directly to running my four tanks, 300 gallons total. Water is another issue since our water bill is high also.

My 75 adds around $30 or so to my bill a month... Maybe 40.. Lol
I pay the bills so out of sight out of mind for the wife.

Lucky for me my electricity is included in my rent! lol. Works out fine though my landlord has a 92 gallon corner reef and I have a 90 gallon reef. I have always had LEDs. I just converted her tank from halides to LEDs few months back and that alone said her almost $25 a month she said. My gf did say if we buy a house or move out that I own the electricity bill because of the tank lol.

Since I converted the tank from T12s (yeah I know they're ancient lol) to LEDs, that alone save us @55 a month. I got rid of all 4 of the mj1200s and replaced them with just 1 wp40 that also saved. My bills are now 180 spring and fall but summer is high here around 350 peak. But we are going from a house with 6 people to 3 at most (that live here and 4-5 that just think they do are gone too.) so summer may be less costly this year ;)

My current wife doesnt know anything different that what the bill is. All she has known is 3-5 FW tanks and 2 Reef tanks with MH. Just dont let them see the other way and your good to go. Also got her interested so I can go wide open on whatever I want
