It just hit me looking through some tank threads when I saw a TV mount in one of the photos. Has anyone ever considered using a TV wall mount and retrofitted it for aquarium lights?

You would need to create a "rack" for you lights to mount to and then configure some way for it to mount to the TV mount. You would also need to use a tv mount that allows the "TV" or lights to be pulled out and positioned where you want it. This is cool because you could tweak the placement of your lights as well as push them out of the way when you're working in the tank.

Stupid idea or does it have merit?

Something like these?

And then this would make a perfect nano tank light mount.

Thats what I did for my lights. Works well, and I can move them to the side if I need more room. I use the large VIparspectra light.

Ooh pics?!?

I've used the one in your second picture to hold Hydra 26's for years. They have been fantastic. I can position side to side but not up and down. So you have to make sure the height above the water line is what you want before installation. The only other challenge is that you'll have to rig some sort of connection piece between the mount and the light itself. I did using some rigid sheet metal and some longer screws which matched the threads of the lights. Painted it all black and it looks and functions great. Its also useful if you need to get the lights out of the way quickly, just slide them to the side.

Photos!!

I just did this last weekend to mount my floating canopy. I will post a pic when I get home tonight.

It worked great! I can even swing the canopy out of the way if needed. My only concern is rust over time, It is a foot or so above the tank so hopefully it will not be an issue.

Cool! Yes pics!

I use one of these as well. Great way to mount in a corner. I’ll post some pics soon.

definitely has merit!

With a TV mount, you could easily attach lights, or if you are a DIY'er or have a 3d printer, print out custom mounting options to the TV mounting arms/profile. If my tank didnt come with the mounting arms already, this was a plan B.

Good call out!!!! especially when you can get a TV mount that holds plenty of weight for lights for less than $10!

This is cool idea. Would love to see more pics from people that have used this.
I was going to hang my hydras from the ceiling, but this seems like a much better idea.

Think that is a great Idea to be able to move the light out of the way if needed. I have a Tv mount laying around and could incorporate the mount I made for the current EcoTech Radion light and attach to the TV mount though. This is current set up.

I should also mention, its critical to measure the total "reach" of the mount to make sure at its max it hits the middle of your tank. This may not work with some wider tanks. As you can see these are fully extended on a 40 breeder 4 inches from the wall.
