A TV wall mount for aquarium lights?

I wonder if I could use one for my controller board. It would be nice to be able to move it closer when I need to do something, and then push it back up out of the way when I'm done.

I originally planned this route but my total setup was a little heavier than planned.

I ended up going over board and using an electric winch mounted in my attic space. Push of a button goes up or down!

I just did this last weekend to mount my floating canopy. I will post a pic when I get home tonight.

It worked great! I can even swing the canopy out of the way if needed. My only concern is rust over time, It is a foot or so above the tank so hopefully it will not be an issue.

I still need to hide the wires

I've seen a couple build threads using the fully articulating wall mount computer monitor arms - can't remember specific threads though.

They're way more flexible than TV mounts - and can typically handle about 15 lbs - so fine for XR30/Hydra/blackbox type lights, but probably not for big fixtures.

It just hit me looking through some tank threads when I saw a TV mount in one of the photos. Has anyone ever considered using a TV wall mount and retrofitted it for aquarium lights?

You would need to create a "rack" for you lights to mount to and then configure some way for it to mount to the TV mount. You would also need to use a tv mount that allows the "TV" or lights to be pulled out and positioned where you want it. This is cool because you could tweak the placement of your lights as well as push them out of the way when you're working in the tank.

And then this would make a perfect nano tank light mount.

While I'm not using a TV mount I am employing two 6 foot aluminum pocket door track rails with trucks so i can slide my two DX-18's (3 foot fixtures) out left and right from my aquarium to clean reflectors and change bulbs etc... I'll be mounting these this weekend in fact. The rails will extend from each side of the tank by 3 feet to allow the fixtures to be moved completely off the tank.
