Aaron's 1,000+ gallon reef build

Looks interesting. I’ll follow along.

Today I fiberglassed all the corners and seams including the overflow. I can’t help but to go overboard when I build things. So I used just over a gallon of the pond armor just for the seams for their “first coat”. I plan on using another 6 1.5 quart kits for the rest of waterproofing. That’ll be for the walls and seams. I will leave the fiberglass seams I did today for a week to fully cure before doing the rest.

Also received in 5 of the total 8 MP40WQDs

So, you are planning to never move again? :D

Great work so far.

Honestly, I think I would have gone closed loop given the thickness of the walls and the expense of that many 40s. But, you definitely will have more control this way.

No I do not plan on moving again. If I do it’ll just take some work to reverse it all.

Close loop was on my mind but I decided to put the extra effort and work in to have MP40WQDs.

Watching this one for sure, very cool dimensions :) Do you know who will be making the tank / specs of the tank?

Made a little progress this week. Here’s the update. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Got some more gear in. Thanks to Black Friday and BRS.

Got a coat on the floors and top of the tank.

Also put 3 coats on the corner panels.

Next I made an exact duplicate corner panel for a template for making the MP40WQDs home.

I laid the template on the corner panel then siliconed these rings on to them. The rings are exactly 3-1/4” in diameter. They perfectly fit the MP40WQDs. This will allow me to remove the wet side for maintenance and easily reconnect it to the dry side. Since I won’t be able to see the dry and wet side like you would on a glass tank, this will guide them directly to each other.
After I did the front I just flip it and did the back. This aligned them perfectly thanks to the template.
