Hey all,
Over the past 2 weeks I have had tissue recession in one of my acans, which I had attributed to something random, but today I noticed significant recession in a small chalice frag and another 2 acans. All acans on sand bed. Picture of acan followed by tank stats:

Deep blue professional 35 cube with 15 gal sump. Kessil 360WE for 13 hours/day. Tank running since Dec '16. Aquaforest reef salt. Mixed reef, with most of the other inhabitants doing well. One cleaner shrimp. I sometimes target feed otherwise general feed with AF power food and have used AF amino/build/energy/vitality for 2 months now, first month+ with no issues.

Salinity 1.026
Nitrates ~0
Phosphate ~0
Ca 440
dKH 6

Purigen and Chemi pure elite changed out May 8. Reef octopus 152-sss.

Special note:
I do run chaeto with kessil H80 Flora in the evening and at night, however my chaeto is dying, but the bubble algae is starting to get out of hand.

The frags have been stable and healthy looking for 4+ months.

I have been good at 10% water change / week. Just did one.

Thanks for the help.

Start with feeding more or reducing skim rate?

Alright, just ordered Magnesium test kit :( bad reefer, and I have KH buffer next to tank and will do more reading prior to using it. I'll post again after Mag test and checking DKH tomorrow.

Thanks for help.

raise the dkh slow. drip it in if you can

Since Sunday, raised dkh to 7.5. Hope to do a full test tonight.

Full round of tests

Salinity 1.026
Nitrates ~0
Phosphate ~0
Ca 400
dKH 7.7
pH 8.2

I reduced the skim rate to help nitrates go up a little. I can feed more. Will get to test for magnesium tomorrow.

Thanks Shaddow_wolf169! I will try that out now.

I also did another add of Fritz Bicarbonate to raise dKH above 8. Also finally tested Mg, which is a bit low. Pulling the chemi pure and purigen will solve the problem of Nitrates at 0. Just have to fix Mg

Salinity 1.02
Nitrates ~0
Phosphate ~0
Ca 420
dKH 8.8
pH 8.2
Mg-1170

Aquaforest Reef Salt.

Mag test is Salifert.

Chemi pure and purigen are out

Definitely low on magnesium. I would get this increased to around 1300 slowly.
Chalice and acans are my canary coral for low magnesium. They will begin to recede if levels are too low.
Also my 2 cents are that if you spot feed them you can keep them in a system with stripped nutrients with no issues.
Alk, Magnesium and calcium balance are key. Keep spot feeding if they will take the food.

3mm3 good to know. Picking up some magnesium by Friday. I will pick up the spot feeding too. Clearly not doing that part enough! And should move that shrimp out.

Shaddow_wolf169 I will make some batches of water this weekend and see what my mag comes out to before I add them and see if it is there. I'll be switching if i cannot get a fresh batch to mix where i need it to.

Thanks for all of the help!
