Acan Maxima!

Ian not trying to discredit the hobbyist as some are very intelligent and educated people. I just think the argument is stupid because no one can definitively say it is or is not and for people to so say it is not or "mini scolly period" with such conviction is silly.

I have great respect for all.....or well most of all members here on R2R as being very knowledgeable reefers, thats why I come here!
my bad for that. we just have had this discussion so many times that i said that with frustration.
and i changed what i said to just calling them unidentified until someone does more research and can properly ID these so called maximas that rave recently hit the trade.

It not believing everything I read dude it's called science done by professionals who do the research in the field....I don't care what some wholesaler sells them as as we all know they are about $$$$$$ right and trans shippers too. What do you think some of this stuff cost what it does do you not think they don't know what they can charge vendors to make top dollar for themselves and if they have to fudge well the ends justifies the means because they are all stand up people, and there is no chance what so ever of dishonesty from them but take "their" word . Honestly I could care less what you think, but calling them by something they are not isn't right when CITES, GBIF, AIMS and others that are plotting the species of the planet all say the sea of Oman and Kuwait and we're supposed to take the word of wholesalers that sell the stuff to people we trust(vendors). The only way to get to the truth is by sharing information. Professionals as what? The wholesalers and trans shippers that an honest vendor that orders from trans shippers and wholesalers and we all know the misrepresentations that there has been in the past. I'm not saying the vendors are lying not once has that come out of my mouth so don't try and put words in it. If the wholesalers are lying or (misinformed which is possiable as well) to the vendors they are selling this stuff to isn't right either and they should call them on it, dishonesty isn't right no matter how you swing it and these vendors are the first victim and the lie or misinformation goes down the chain with no correction. One of the problems that has gotten this hobby into trouble with the environmentalist and governments is collection, shipping of corals under the wrong name toget it through check points cause the people that are doing the checking can't possibly I.D. everything that comes in especially in SPS.

Honestly you can call them what the heck you like I could care less that isn't the point........I don't need to go there look it up do some research, you talk about I believe what I read take a look in the mirror dude I am doing the research based in scientific papers done by scientist and I am supposed to take the words of some collector and wholesaler over them? Also International government regulations, not to mention there are no CITES quotas for Oman in 2010 , could they be collected off of Kuwait? Yes but that isn't Indo-Pacific is it? And I can't find CITES quotas for corals for 2010......Could it be misinformation yes, could it be the vendors are being hoodwinked yes, I don't care to see them get misinformation and/or lied to either. They are the ones we deal with and we as hobbyist need to protect them from dishonesty or misinformation if we can. Liveaquaria Divers Den gets them as well and guess what they call them? But that could be me just believing in everything I read too right?

I'm done with it believe in what you want it don't matter to me but I plan on getting some of these to see what they are all about since they are beautiful corals and in the end that is what really matters
+1.... well written

I also am done with this....But I want to make perfectly clear I am NOT calling any vendor liars.....I wouldn't do that much risk the chance to buy great corals from anyone of the vendors here......I honestly think the more info we share the more informed we are....Vendors do bring a great amount of information to the table as well......I"m out.....I got your PM Rob will send one back....

So you all are saying they are Scolymia Australis or Lobophyllia? So you're saying its not possible for them to be in Indo? Even though fish and coral from all sorts of places that are not suppose to be there, but yet they are. Just like Indo Lionfish in the caribbean....

EDIT: I forgot to mention that ITIS says Indo-West Pacific, which is not the Indian Ocean or near Kuwait or Oman....

All 3 have different skeletons and textures and maximum growth size. Here are pics of all 3.

How do you know the maximum growth size of your "Acan maxima" did you actually see one grow to its maximum size? I find that pretty comical. Can you describe the differences in tissue and skeleton between the scoly and the "maxima"? If so what are they?

I see surely see scoly's on LA divers den that look a lot like your maxima.

Lion fish are in the Caribbean because people released their pets. How does that have to do with this?

I have seen the skeletons first hand and have seen Maxima's divide just like the photo from AIMS website.

Whats comical about Live Aquarias website is that they were calling them Maximas a few weeks ago.

Ive said all Im going to say about this.

I wonder why live aquaria fixed it and stopped calling it maximas. Maybe because they were wrong?

You telling me that you have seen the skeletons first hand is not telling me the difference between the two. Can you describe it for me?

I have a skeleton of a so called Maxima that I will share when I get a chance to take a picture of it. Maybe then we can make some educated assumptions to what it *might* be.

Maybe LA changed the name to avoid an ugly conflict and drawing negative attention to their sale. Kinda like ..........oh never mind this is so pointless. James is clearly the only one around here actually reading and researching, posting only facts. The rest of us are posting based on emotion and pride. Who gives an F what it is as long as it looks dope in your tank and your happy with your purchase.

this is the last ill say on this
there are more scolys than just the australis(not saying it is a scoly)
