Hi, I’m having some new acans RTN all of a sudden. I read a antibiotic dip might help, I ordered furan 2 but can’t get it till Friday, after work I noticed another is starting to lose tissue. I’m going to get erythromycin instead to try, anyone have any experience dipping with antibiotics, anything else I can try?

I've not done it. Can you explain in a little more detail. I've never heard of LPS RTN'ing, only SPS.

A picture would be helpful.

Sorry ya I’ll get pictures in 20 mins, the flesh is melting away , doesn’t look predatory from crabs ect

First two photos show two acans that are basically gone, were both fine two days ago, second two pics are two acans I think I see it developing on, sorry for blue pics but the first two show the RTN.

All of these corals were purchased last week, all placed in same part of tank, going to try moving them, maybe flow or lighting is off?

I decided to not try the antibiotic yet, don’t want to try something to harsh right away but this is frustrating losing these guys.

Thanks

I also just bought a red led light to check them at lights off for possible preds.

LPS corals can sometimes just die off like that.
You see it with euphyllias as well.
Not usually described as RTN per se, but probably a similar event.
There's something in your conditions that they just didn't like.
Water chemistry, light, flow; could be any of them.
Could even be some bacterial species in your tank that goes after this coral;
this is the only possibility for which antibiotics would maybe be useful.
Also, did you dip them before adding them to the tank? Some dips can be harsh.

Thanks for replies, I moved all the corals to a lower flow area, different light. All other acans and Euphyllia look fine, only these new additions, I will keep an eye out for preds tonight. Bacteria thing also makes sense, possibly try the furan 2.

All corals were dipped in Bayer , 1.5ml/oz 15 mins. Do the same with all corals

Bayer may have damaged them, like @rkpetersen said.

Although I switched to melafix, I have used Bayer for many years and never had any experience with it damaging or destroying acans.

However, anything can be a factor in a rapid loss of coral. It’s so hard to pinpoint. It could be predation, it could be some harmful bacteria or infectious agent, it could be chloramines. It’s a long list of what might be causing an issue. There is nothing overtly wrong with the parameters that you listed. Some people may advocate for different ranges of parameters but assuming your test results are correct, you are not way out there.

And sometimes a particular coral or coral type just can’t seem to find a happy spot in a new tank. Hard to understand.

Mmm there is what I thought to be brown algae growing on one of the frags, it just picked some off it, it’s not jelly like, it’s stringy like algae is

...yes , 2 peppermint, I only ever see one though so I think there is only one left ,
I just can’t imagine they are eating them this fast

Just had another acan start melting over night, going to try a big water change I guess
