Acan RTN

I ended up doing a 50% water change and dipping affected corals in Coral rx, will be dipping in iodine tomorrow.

I had another acan start losing flesh this morning that had been in the tank for quite some time so I’m ruling out harsh dip. Also added a grounding probe to rule stray voltage out.

I found my second peppermint today during water change, going to remove them next week.

were you direct feeding ur acans? mine did fine for months with the shrimp until I started direct feeding with reef roids... the shrimp would constantly be tearing at them to get the food out after. I lost 3 small colonys and 4 nice frags all within a few weeks of starting to feed them. I kinda feel they damaged the 1st colony to the point it got a bacterial infection then the shrimp possibly spread the infection across all the acans as they pretty much hung out n lived among the acans after I started feeding them

FWIW, I have peppermints and they pick at my acans. I’ve lost several heads. I’ve caught them. Sometimes when I stick my hand in the tank, my cleaner shrimp and the peppermints will pick at my arm. The peppermints actually hurt while the cleaner is more gentle. So when I see peppermints picking at corals, I’m certain they’re tearing away flesh.

Thanks guys really appreciate it. Yes I direct feed Mysis. I hope this is the issue and not chemical. I’m continuing to monitor any tissue loss and the peppermint are coming out. The peppermint and somewhat recent additions, I did actually find one head first into a torch right after I got them, he was then consumed by the torch but I know what he was looking for, Im hoping this is it.

All affected corals were dipped yesterday. The first acan that I noticed is lacking any tissue so might be a goner. My prized acan that started losing a head yesterday was moved to a different tank after being dipped. No more tissue loss on him and looks much better.

Im feeding extra heavy over the next few days so the shrimp stay well fed before they are removed.

Thought I’d update in case it helps anyone!

Did a 40% water change and added ground probe. Dipped affected corals in coral rx and iodine a day apart, corals bounced back next day , one looking better then it ever has. It’s been a few days and everything is good. Not sure (and most likely never will be) what was causing the issue.

Did lose one acan it looks like, going to keep him going in hopes it recovers.

thanks for the advice all!
