Interesting... my photos have been posted on FB by Reef2Reef many times, with no credit given or permission asked to use my photo. Now I don't have a big deal with it, but if there is a steadfast rule in place, it should be abided by all.

Hey bud good point!

No big deal here :) I wasn't aware of the "Photos, articles, and posts submitted to our forums may be used by Reef2Reef in the sharing of links and articles." portion of the rule. As mentioned to Rev in a PM I have no issues with R2R sharing my photos I share on the forum, I enjoy it!

I am however heavily in favor of total transparency regarding vendors and potential sketchy business practices. This is a big issue concerning the potential long term viability of our beloved hobby.

Agree 100 percent

In this hobby there is no real way to set the price. You can't go to places like Walmart and target to compare prices on the exact same item. You cant go to places like KBB to value a coral the same way as you can a car. You can't have an appraiser to tell you its value. What might be a common coral in california pets stores is not going to be as common in an Ohio store. In all, it's worth what someone is willing to pay.

But there is a difference in a shady business practice and what someone prices a coral for IMHO. :)

This entire hobby has gone bat **** crazy with the prices of coral these days... I've been in this hobby for 18 years and remember buying rocks with 50-60 ricordea for around 35 dollars... Now your lucky if you can get two stinking rics for that price let alone a rock with 50+ on it
I also remember rocks with all over 1000 zoa's on them going for around 60 on the high end for what are now being called "whammin watermelons"
I understand this is a customer driven market and if people can get away with charging it then more power to them I suppose but for the guys like me who have been in this industry a long time I have a really hard time trying to justify these prices to myself
When I first started elegance corals were out of my price range because I piece about 12-14 inches across was about $200 and THE CORAL to have back then was pulsing xenia... I remember practically paying for an entire 90 gallon reef with metal halides just of the profit and store credit I made from selling stalks of that stuff, now I can't give it away

I also read an interesting article today that was written awhile back about coral vendors "price fixing" certain corals so that there was no real way for the consumer to compare prices in a real way

There's two different worlds in the coral game. You have the lfs that pays no attention to the internet and you can buy a 4" "item x" for $50. In the online world "item x" is going for $100 per inch.....

Pete honestly buddy you wouldn't say that if you shipped at one of my lfs! Lol!

Well maybe not.... But there's lfs that troll the online game to price their corals. For instance, I have been to 2 lfs that were 10 miles apart. One had this written on the tank...3" bleeding Apple scoly! $399! The other one had the same scoly same size and written on the tank.... Brain $129....

If I go to lfs I can say "can you get me some Darth maul's?" One will say "yeah, but it's going to cost you" the other will say "what's a Darth maul?"

And Rev...you would have flipped if you saw the wilsoni I saw last week I'm St. Louis for $80. It is seriously the size of a souvenir basketball.... They also had huge platygra and lobo that were like 6"+ for the sane price.
