So I am wondering if rainbow and multi colored acans normally do better in lower light or high light?

I would appreciate pictures of your acans and letting me know where you have them in your tank.

Thanks!

Acans overall do better in low light/shady areas of the tank

Low light/low flow. Too much light and you end up with red acans. Too much flow they dont look fluffy. Her are some of mine

Mine are at 250 par getting rocked by flow all day. They grow new heads all the time and look great imo. So I’m going to go ahead and disagree with low light low flow. I’m gonna call it a “medium” all around.

yours are nice too!

Rainbows will lose their rainbow in high light. I don't have any pics on hand but I have expierenced this first hand. You can really see the difference if you have a colony where most is in higher direct light and then a few heads on the back are getting shaded or have lower light, you will see more coloration/rainbow effect on those few heads getting less par.

This being said i know that lower par is generally better but what specific values I can't say.

Interesting. I have a red acan where the lower polyps and newer ones underneath are displaying rainbow colors

Those are gorgeous! Most of mine are in the 100-120 range. I may shift them down lower now!
