Very new to corals. I’ve fed my acans 3 times. 1st time, they puffed up and looked great. 2nd time, they threw up and looked sickly. 3rd time, they puffed up, not throwing up but sliming?!? What am I doing wrong here?

Feeding reef roids now once a week. Feeding 1 and 2 were 4 days apart but they spat out the 2nd feeding so assumed too much and cut back.

I feed reef roids twice a week target feeding.. I'd just chill out on feeding and see how they look after a few weeks.

I would add a mix of meaty foods and stick with once/twice a week feedings.. the reefroids are good but I've found my acans give a much better feeding response to meaty food. The slime is just the acan trying to hold onto the roids and nothing wrong atall.

Ok. I was also target feeding. But so far once a week is yielding good results.

Any idea about the sliming? Not sure if u can see in pics. Looks like strings of slime. Not coming out of mouth

Make sure your turning off your flow when feeding your acans with reef roids, it’s not uncommon when I’m feeding them that the slime a bit with a little bit of roids in it. They will close up a bit as they eat, just refrain from completely over feeding them during each feeding session. If your interested, check out a video by billypipes on YouTube that explains how he uses reef roids to feed his acans. It helped a lot of people and his acans always look bomb.

Awwww so they like it? That’s so Cute!!! Next week: meaty! I’m so excited!!!

Here’s a question: do corals tire of the same food every time? Should I do like a pellet one week, meaty the next, roids the next kinda thing? Or u think they’d prefer consistency?

Btw your acans look fine in the pics, as long as they open up again after a bit

If there only doing this during the feeding process and are puffed up the rest of the time I wouldn't worry. Honestly I've found less is more just feed your fish and have a good light :) it looks like you have a bit of algae maybe a bit too much feeding. I dunno.

Just type in billy pipes reef roids

I’ve seen that video. Very cool. The feeding devise I purchased sucks!!! I mix up the roids to the perfect consistency but when the syringe goes underwater, it floods from the top and waters it way down. Thought I was just doing something wrong but, after tofay’s Feeding, I’ve decided to purchase another one. Do u recommend anything in particular?

I have the exact one he uses in the video, you can get it on amazon for like 4$

Perhaps. A little background:

They do not look puffed up all the time. Just after a feeding. Does this mean they need more feedings? Maybe just smaller amount than attempt that resulted in them spitting food out.

The tank is a 20g purchased with the intent to turn it into a Display Refugium for my 110g. It came w: heater, live rock, crushed coral, a clownfish, am engineer goby, a glass lid (which I keep open), lights, and what the guy called “7 frags of mushrooms”. There are 7 frags but 1 is GSP and 1 is a mushroom. Rest are acans. That’s why I’m so poorly equipped to deal w them. I was ready to care for mushrooms. Not acans. Anyway, during the take down/transfer process, rock and livestock were transferred to buckets. When it all arrive at my home, I thoroughly rinsed the substrate, cleaned the tank, and put it all back together w 1/2 their old clean water, and 1/2 new water. Looks like I may have restarted the cycle because the dreaded uglies have come up. Don’t see algae though. Where?

Corals don't tire of the same food all the time but mixing it up every now and then doesn't hurt anything either. I would skip the pellets though and if you want alternate between the roids and the meaty foods. Reefroids is a highly concentrated food so using little of it and spreading out the use will help keep excess nutrients out of your water.

Yeah I kinda noticed the roids get everywhere. Specially w my crappy feeding syringe. Now that I’m doing a once a week feed, I implemented a “feed the day before water change” policy. Hoping that takes care of that issue :)

I shut off all my pumps when feeding and target feed. Others broadcast feed reefroids while the pumps are on. Really it's all about what's best for you and your situation and system. If your system is new it might be better to target feed o help keep the nutrients down and down the road broadcast feed which helps all the other filter feeding organisms in your tank flourish.
