Acans slime at feedings?

I shut off all my pumps when feeding and target feed. Others broadcast feed reefroids while the pumps are on. Really it's all about what's best for you and your situation and system. If your system is new it might be better to target feed o help keep the nutrients down and down the road broadcast feed which helps all the other filter feeding organisms in your tank flourish.

There are no other filter feeders in my tank. I do shut off the pumps and filter feed but the feeding device I use sucks. What do u use? Do u recommend it?

I just use a 10ml syringe and some 1/4" airline tubing cause I'm cheap lol. It can be a little difficult feeding the roids because it tends to want to settle out of the tube naturally but I've gotten used to it.

Interesting. I’m using a syringe too but I just submerge it into the water. It immediately floods. I’ve got a ton of 1/4 inch tubing. I’ll give it a try thx!

Perhaps. A little background:

They do not look puffed up all the time. Just after a feeding. Does this mean they need more feedings? Maybe just smaller amount than attempt that resulted in them spitting food out.

The tank is a 20g purchased with the intent to turn it into a Display Refugium for my 110g. It came w: heater, live rock, crushed coral, a clownfish, am engineer goby, a glass lid (which I keep open), lights, and what the guy called “7 frags of mushrooms”. There are 7 frags but 1 is GSP and 1 is a mushroom. Rest are acans. That’s why I’m so poorly equipped to deal w them. I was ready to care for mushrooms. Not acans. Anyway, during the take down/transfer process, rock and livestock were transferred to buckets. When it all arrive at my home, I thoroughly rinsed the substrate, cleaned the tank, and put it all back together w 1/2 their old clean water, and 1/2 new water. Looks like I may have restarted the cycle because the dreaded uglies have come up. Don’t see algae though. Where?
Uhh all the brown on the substrate and glass is algae (which your referring to as the uglies) I hope all works out happy reefing! :)

I usually put the reefroids and some tank water in a small cup. Then make sure the airline and syringe is completely full of water. Squirt out half a syringe of tank water then suck some reefroids mix into the airline. Drop the airline tubing into the tank with the syringe attached and once over there mouths, slowly squeeze the syringe. Once you get used to it all you don't even have to squeeze to get the roids out as it will fall out of the tube on it's own and you just need to direct the tube where you want the food to go.

I just add in some fish roe and Artemis and a little RR into my LRS and feed fish with a syringe. corals get what they get most of the time. Fish won’t mess with smaller stuff right away so some gets blown into the acans, blasts, and Duncan’s. I hate to spot feed them as the tangs like to pick it out of their mouths.

I enjoy spot feeding them and, now that I’ve got the hang of it, they seem to appreciate it. They’re in a 20g w 2 fish so I keep feeding to a minimum. Just feed what the fish will eat. Not much extra left for the corals. But will consider once they make it to my 110g :) thx

Mariette, check out 'Julians thing' on youtube.

Otherwise will claim its overkill, but I use it for target feeding reef roids and find it lets you feed with high control and precision, I can even hit each zoanthid polyp mouth one by one with it and the long reach means you don't have to put your hands in the water.

Thx. I definitely need to keep excess nutrients out of the tank. They’re in a small temporary 20g so I can’t afford any swings in parameters.
