I started slowly adding cupramine to my 20g QT on 4/6. Today I accidentally and stupidly!! Grabbed the bottle of Prazipro and before I realize what I did, I poured it in the tank!
I'm adding 10 drops a day of cupramine, so I've so far only added 20 to 25 drops. God only knows how much prazi just went in there, I stopped the second I saw it pouring in! maybe teaspoon or tablespoons worth, not really sure at all here!

I made up 10g of salt water, I have 5 on hand, I'm heating it now.
I added a bag of carbon to the filter.

What else can I do? How dangerous is this?

What's your copper at now? Adding carbon is a good move, but you'll still need to do water changes to remove cupramine completely. If I'd done this (I sort of have, just different meds) I would have done the same thing. Added carbon, done water changes to strip everything out and then started over as long as fish were still doing well. Or if not give them a few days-a week break as long as they're not symptomatic of anything. If you acted fast everything should be fine.

I didn't test the copper before adding the carbon, I just quickly went and made up 2 more 5g containers of water, I already had 1 to get me started and I can only heat 3 at a time...I had to dip into my container supply that were not for the QT. I can't do the water change until this water heats up, unfortunately it's only about 70 degrees and it takes forever to warm up the 78! It will probably be close to an hour before I get the water change done, unless my water speed heats today, which would be nice.

luckily (I think) the copper levels should be really low, I was going to test it today for the first time too.

Tested and if I did it right, there is no traceable copper. I used Seachem's copper test, I don't have one of those cool Hanna checkers..wish I did, but they're too pricey for me right now. I don't fully understand how dipping that stick in whatever that powder is and tapping it off, then stirring, actually does anything, but I assume it does? lol Since others suggested this kit, I figured it must be a second to Hanna checker.

What symptoms should I be looking for? The yellow Tang has issues already, which is why I was starting cupramine, i have no idea what is wrong with him, no visible signs of parasite, nothing came off in a FW dip, no flashing. He's just breathing rapidly and suddenly lost weight, he's eating though. He's a little twitchy the last couple of days, I think, it's hard to say, they're such weird fish to begin with. The little Kole is acting completely normal.

Water change and carbon ssap

I’ve used Prazi and copper together before, it’s generally fine. I wouldn’t lose much sleep. It’s safe for up to 4x recommended dose for most fish.

Typical dose for 20g is a teaspoon... the only fish that I *might* be worried about would be wrasses... since they are a bit more sensitive to overdose.

But, if you put carbon in right away... most of it is probably already gone by now anyway...and probably a good bit of your copper lol

I do not think there is a known contraindication for copper and Prazi. I think you have no worries. Dont stress your fish any more than you need to.

Thank you everyone!
I had only just started slowly adding Cupramine a couple days before, I thought copper mixed with anything else was a toxic mix! Good to know I didn't poison my fish! I panicked, added carbon and did a big water change:) On a positive note, the water is looking much better...lol I changed out the media bag too, I think it was clogging up and causing my nitrate issues. I also added a power head.

At least now I know it's safe to restart the copper treatment! I hope this help my fish, I have absolutely no idea what is going on with him but something is wrong. I'll never buy fish online again, I'm sticking with the local fish store even if it is more expensive.

Any specific symptoms? Maybe we can help?

As of today, they both look bad. I have 2, a Yellow and a Kole Tang. The yellow has been breathing rapidly and lost weight. I'm feeding them seaweed every day and they eat it all. The Kole has been find all along until today, he's not swimming around normal and his color looks a little faded, he's small, like a couple inches at most. The Yellow is twice his size. I treated them back in Nov/Dec with Prazi for Flukes, only the yellow had symptoms and showed them in a FW dip. I treated twice, about a month apart, the 2nd time mostly out of precaution because I saw the yellow flashing again. Both were FW dipped after this and were clear.
They were fine until just recently.
I FW dipped the yellow about 2 weeks ago and ruled out Flukes.

They have no other symptoms, no visible spot or anything. The only symptom is the rapid breathing and weight loss in the yellow and now today, the Kole just looking a bit off.

I started Cupramine again today but I'm thinking I need to move a little faster with it, maybe double the amount that was advised on here. Which was to do 10 drops a day for up to 8 days to reach therapeutic levels, 5 in the am and 5 in the pm. Today I added 10 drops. I'm thinking of adding up to 20 a day to reach therapeutic levels faster, is that safe? I also don't know what to watch for if the fish have issue with the Cupramine.

I actually think they might have intestinal parasites, any white stringy poop?

Edit to add. Not a bad idea to start copper just in case there is ich or another parasite in the gills.

No stringy poop, I never even see them poop at all, not since I've had them! :)

How big is your QT? Do you have a Hanna or test kit for the copper? I wouldn’t add 20 drops at a time without testing... I only usually add maybe 5 drops at a time between testing in my 20g QT...

I would try feeding General Cure + Focus, for at least 10-14 days. Can go as long as three weeks if needed. Tangs are poop machines, if you haven’t seen them poop than there is definitely something going on there...

I usually do 2 scoops GC + 1 scoop focus per 1 tablespoon frozen food (frozen mysis is easier to medicate than nori) and feed at least twice a day. Just small amounts at a time, only as much as they can eat so you don’t muck up your QT.

For future ref . Heat mixed water in a bowl in the micro wave or in a pot on the stove and mix that back until you get your 78 degrees.
Besides your chemical treatment can you get some live food? Some LFS have black worms. This can help fatten them up.

It's 20g. I don't have the Hanna testers, I have the Seachem copper test. So maybe stick to 10 a day for up to 8 days? I just thought the sooner they get to the right level the better. I hope the Seachem test is accurate, I don't understand how that powder adds anything to the test..it's weird.

Never thought to speed heat that way! With Summer coming, I'll have the opposite problem, I've actually had to cool water down before! I'm in TX, the RODI water is in the garage, it's not as hot in there as it is outside, but still, the water is over 80 degrees all summer.

I've never fed live food before..kind of grosses me out;Yuck Where do you keep this, in your fridge? I have frozen food but they show little interest in anything other than the seaweed.
