Acclimation procedure: what did I do wrong?

Were the fish oxygen bagged or just regular air? I live 1 1/2 hours away from any saltwater stores and always have them oxygen bagged because it just works so much better.

I’m gonna go ahead and chime in by saying it was likely the result of nothing more than random chance. Moving fish induces stress, stress provokes disease and may exacerbate underlying issues to surface and affect the fish. While I do agree with NEVER blind dosing into a shipping bag the likely hood of the reduction of assumed copper in the water being acutely toxic via aldehydes present seems unlikely to me. What seems more likely is the drawn out acclimation period paired with the extreme change in salinity in a short period of time all paired with the stress of the move. Sometimes it just happens...

Ok, part of proper acclimation is temperature. If I put in an unheated bucket, wont the water cool below tank parameters?

No because you’re adding tank water every few minutes and is warm

I would use a calibration fluid on your refractometer to check that it is okay. LFS running 1.030 seems very unusual.

Checked it just the other day, its spot on. I was at the store late Sunday night, perhaps he was just behind on maintenance and needed to top off the system.....
