Achilles Tang 101

Wow! Thanks for sharing your success! FWIW, drying the CP soaked nori in the sun will mostly degrade the CP as UV breaks it down. Maybe just feed it directly after soaking?
i wonder if he's considered how easy it breaks down with UV. thanks for posting up.

I’m not sure if diy CP fish food will get you the concentration you need to be effective. Plus it seems like work and then there is the sun issue another member mentions.

You might want to consider new life spectrum ick shield fish food pellets. Fish eat it without issue and the chloroquine phosphate is already in it.

I have used NLS Ich shield-many times, unfortunately the fish learn quickly that it doesn’t taste good and spit it out. I sometimes mix it in with the regular NLS pellets to trick them. They tend to eat the Dr G’s caviar with less resistance than the Ick shield

@R6REEFER

I worked part time at a LFS that stocked and sold Achilles

Golden Rules (at least at our shop)

#1 - minimize any salinity swing greater than 0.003. Seriously, I've seen Achilles take a dive when SG went from 1.023 to 1.027 bc of a Waterchange. They do ok when SG falls but when suddenly goes up 0.004 ... curtains!

#2 - minimize temperature swings to only be within 2 degrees. That means having an Emergency backup plan IN PLACE if/when electricity goes out. If loss of electricity causes the tank to go from 78 to 72....bend over and kiss your Achilles gooooodbye. At no point in time is a temp jump or drop going to see good results on the Achilles

#3 - Achilles are EATING MACHINES. They require 3-5 very small meals throughout the day. We're talking food they devoure in 3mins or less. 4mins and still food in the tank? Tooooo much food! At the shop we tried to hit 4 meals a day 7/24/365. If you miss a day where they only get one meal or no meal for a day....we called it the "hungry ICH syndrome". Our Achilles would break out with ICH DUE TO THE STRESS OF LITTLE TO NO FOOD FOR 24-36hrs.

#4 - Achilles needs TON of swimming room. 6ft tank minimum bc they are HYPER HYPER Swimmers. They JET across the tank and if they feel confined....stress, then ICH.

Live by these 4 rules we had at the store and you'll be ahead of the curve

Squid maybe!
Some good info here! Thanks skimjim!
Lost power twice this past month down to 71 degrees was scary as hell.

I'm supposed to pick up a Achilles tang tomorrow. Now I'm not sure.. im getting rid of my chevron tang . I have a 90 gallon tank so it would be too small for him and I already have a purple tang he will be paired with. I'm not sure that would work out too well eather. Maybe I shouldn't get it.
