Its mostly done with SPS. Cut a frag then take fishing line and hang it in the tank. Thus letting it grow from every angle its a propagation teq there is o encrusting just growing meaning it grows faster and from more angles meaning more growth or more $ for who ever does it.

I'm going start hanging my chalices

+1. Mines never too off and just withered away slowly and died. Never saw all the colors that it was suppose to get.

Same for mine as well.....i had it for years and it hardly grew and eventually just withered away......mine was only marooninsh / purple and never exhibited much color variation.....with the chalices that are being imported today it doesn't stand a chance.....

A couple of us local's went in on a frag of trop's acid trip and it's doing well, growth on it seems to go in spurts. It's got a dark purple, blackish and dark reddish coloring to it, I will try to get a pic of it up tomorrow when the lights come on. Its a little larger than a nickel or so... Still small. I think it's an amazing chalice once grown out but like most high end chalice takes a while to grow and get all the colors to come in. I also have a BPC flamethrower and that is by far the slowest growing coral I have ever seen, takes watching paint dry to a new level :)

M and M could you elaborate on this hanging technique at all. I know it's an old post but I just saw it. Feel free to PM me as not to hijack this thread.
Thanks,

It's all about mass to grow like you said. if I have one square inch frag and it grows 1/4 for every inch it has of side it will grow 1 hole inch in square space in one month. Now if I have a 5 inch frag and the same growth 1/4 inch for every 1 inch real-estate it has on it's side. This frag will grow four square inches each month. Like stated above bigger frags/colonies grow faster. Feeding it and it having more eyes does also help.

Disclaimer- Yes some coral does grow faster then others but more mas to grow from does make it grow faster, this also is shown with my hanging coral makes it grow faster then putting it on a frag disk.
I know this is old but hopefully you will see it! I have my chalices on plus with no space on side. Actually all of my corals on on posts! If I put it on rock then it will grow faster?

I noticed something yesterday! All the wild blastos, acans, ect grow wide and the ones on plugs grow tall! I love the wide growth especially of blastos! Yesterday I noticed my acan that is growing babys aroung the side up under the top polyp. I picked it up and noticed one head was trying to grow wide! away from the others. It was a thin piece though like with no skeleton under it! That got me to thinking that being on frag posts and not directly touching rock is why they grow tall! Because they cant spred out! is this a true statement?

I havnt decided placement yet and dont know how I want my tank to look fuly grown out plus I have tons of aptasia on rock and waiting for nudis to do there job!

Once aptasia is gone I want to start placing on rock! Can I easily move them if (if I change my mind) using tunze epoxy I think its called and super glue sandwiched like brs recommends?

Jus won an acid trip for 60 bucks! is this a good deal. Asking because CB is refusing to give me my 900 credit and not sure If I should pay out of pocket since I won so many 1300 worth I have to narrow down want I dont want! I hate to give them another dime after what they did but i got some great deals!
