Adding salt

U need either a refractor or hydro meter to measure salinity. I prefer a refractor meter cause its more precise than other. It probably costs $40-45 each, but it worths at the end.

Hydrometers are the cheaper alternative. You can pick them up for less than $5. Refractometers are supposedly more accurate and consistent, but I love my old hydrometer.

1/2 cup per gallon is good starting point. Will usually mix under 1.026 sg.
Add more salt to bring up to desired levels. Most mix to 1.026

Make sure salt has completely dissolved, and check with hydrometer or refractometer.
I recommend adding salt to water not water to salt
