When you say live sand are you talking bag live sand?? I would just buy a bag of dry personally get more for your money. And yes you can but I would rinse it as good ad possible because it will make a dust storm regardless. Then use like a 1-2" piece of PVC and a funnel and you can dump the sand down the pipe and direct where you want it to go. Turn all flow off of course while pouring. Then I would put in new filter sock or sponge when filtration turned back on to catch the dust out of the water
+1 to the above post. You can add dry, inert sand or cured live sand but you can't add the bagged "live" sand that they sell at pet stores that has a little water in it. Not to an established tank anyways.
