Adding several tangs and wanted to know something

For a 300 gallon? Forget the powder blue, turn in your hippo and yellow for credit when you get the 300, and go for a scopas (Acanthurus sohal), a sailfin (Zebrasoma desjardini), kole tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus), and my personal favorite due to personality and looks, one that's already on your list, a naso (Naso lituratus)

OK im gonna rethink the entire order, its all about the health of the fish, Ive gotten lucky in the past but I dont wanna push it.

IMO the Powder Blue and the Hippo are the meanest. I love my Powder Blue, but there is no way I could add another fish that even comes close to him in shape.

Ill speak for the caribbean blue or atlantic blue tang. they can be some MEAN SOB's. I have one. he started as yellow and I watched him turn. Awesome fish, but they can be very tempermental. they will nto get along with other Acanthurus tangs and if it comes in as a juvi, your yellow tang will be fit to be tied especially if he is established.

Best advice, wait till the upgrade, then add these as you add the existing fish in the new tank. This will minimize issues. I have 4 tangs in my 180. 3 of them from your list. I have a Naso, Atlantic Blue, Blue Hippo and a powder brown.

if you do experience fighting have a mirror handy.

I do have the mirror set up all ready to go

also

I have redone the acclimation cage for what ever new fish I decide to go with. It will be the legnth of the tank. Be made of egg crate. It will be aprox 48 long (tank is 60), 10 inches high, 10 inches deep, with a lid.

My plan is to put what ever fish I get in there for a min of 72 hours. This way the other fish will see them and I can look for some aggression. Even though I know once I let them out there still will be some. Also this should provide some ample swimming room (the fish are all small). Plus I think by a introduction like this it will cause less stress in the long run. I still havent decided what I wanted however Im debating.

I heard of all tang the purple and sohal are the meanest fish you could add

All the tangs can be potentially the meanest fish in the tank, particularly against other tangs. It will always be hit or miss, regardless of which tang you get. I have a friend with a sohal and a naso in the same tank, a 220 6 footer, with no issues. IMO, tangs get mean when you have them in too small a tank. I don't foresee and issue for you in a 300

As for a purple tang, I have a purple living with the 3 others tangs in a 150, also no issues in over 3 years. Here's a photo I took over 2 years ago or so. The photo is old, they are all still alive, still coexisting, and still growing today, but this is the one and only photo I have where they were grouped together.

I had a 10" sohal. Yes they can be mean.

Well after talking to some local guys , one who had the same size tank I got the following

Powder blue
African/cari blue tang
Naso

To go along with my blue hippo and yellow and we have no bullying after 48 hours, the blue tang is the size of a fifty cent piece and him and the powder blue are best friends, the naso and blue hippo hang and the yellow is a rebel

I just added a powder blue to my tank today. I have a regal and a sailfin that have been in tank for a long time. I was worried and they did fight at first and now they seem to be buds swimming together. You just never know how they will react.

Keeping Multiple Tangs

I have four LARGE tangs in a 150 long reef; Yellow 6", Purple 5", Regal 7" and a Naso 7 1/2" (not finished growing). The only issue I have is algae. I was wondering why I had it. Then as I was pondering this while looking at my tank, my big blue swam center stage and relieved its self of the day's nori feeding, TANGS ARE POOH MACHINES! If you are going to have tangs, make sure you have really good filtration. Other than that there seems to be hardly any aggression. As far as the ICH goes, a fat happy fish is a non-stressed fish = no ICH. Fish compete for two things, territory and food. Give them enough space and they will work out their territories, just make sure the are fed WELL and you shouldn't have any problems. I also have a Scopas 4", Yellow 4" and A Sailfin 8 1/2" in a 150 high. No ICH there either. Feed well and be happy,

Ernie

I was really curious about adding several different types of Tangs to my 72 bow front. I have a Sailfin that we all love. But the family is now set in a blonde naso tang. From what ive researched most tangs could be aggressive with all other tangs.

Does anyone have numerous species of Tangs?? And what are they?? We are looking at powders, convicts and yellows.

Thoughts?

Mainly same body types like a yellow and a purple will fight most of te time problem is that you are gonna have to get a tiny naso bc it will outgrow that tank in a year

Ok, thanks Buck. So i guess a yellow tang and a black tang probably wouldn't work? Or maybe with caution?

If you had a larger tank I'd say go for it, if you wanna add another tang look at like the tomini or other bristle tooth tangs they are non aggressive am don't require big tanks
