Is there anything else this could be other than the obvious? I've dipped twice and nothing comes off.

Thanks!

What are you using to dip? Also they can be hidden. I find them easier to battle early before lights come on.

Looks like it. You could pull the coral of the plug and look under the coral. Odds are they are under it.

I've dipped in Coral Rx and hydrogen peroxide. I have Bayer but it's so milky I don't think I'd be able to see anything that comes off. Also, I don't see any eggs. None of my other corals show any signs of damage. I don't know, it seems like classic aefw but I can't confirm.

It's AEFW. Use the bayer. Also, what are these in the pic?

Those are both just detritus that was blown off as I used a dropper to flush the frag. I looked very closely at any little thing that came off of it.

Definitely worms.....I can see 2 of them on the coral in your picture...

Can you point out the two that you see? If you're talking about the brown circular outline kind of in the middle of the frag, that's a coralite that is coming straight out toward the camera--see the polyp at 1:00?

definitely AEFW...

I know, right? It's textbook but I still wish I had hard evidence. The sad thing is this frag came from a LFS that sells really high end stuff. This was a cheapy frag, but it was in the same tank as frags that they sell for $100 and up. Ugh.

I think bite marks like that are hard evidence.

A lot of sellers dont care about aefw, just the money. Vendors and people selling from their home, well known and "trusted" alike. I suggest like to suggest people treat everything like it's out of the reef.

Def aefw. If you haven't started already I would start a dipping regimine of all your sps to get rid of these things. It won't be easy but it's necessary to eradicate these things

*Update*

I dipped this frag in Bayer and this huge flatworm came off. I couldn't get it to uncurl to get a good shot of it. There you have it. I have no idea how this thing could have been hiding.

Is that your only acro frags or do you have more in the tank?

I do have other frags in this tank but they are all on a frag rack so they should be easy to dip. I'm just hoping that dipping them doesn't kill them...

The good news is that nothing else is showing any signs of infestation.

Dip all SPS on your frag rack and if any others in the tank dip those too.
Dip also at the same time your frag rack.
Look for eggs on the frag plug and SPS.
After five days dip again as you might missed the eggs and they will hatch as they won't come off or die during the dipping if you want to do it good and follow the recommended process you have to do this for 8 week minimum.
I know it sucks but there isn't a safe way or shortcut out of this.

So just to get the protocol straight:

Should I dip all of my SPS, no just the acros?

I need to dip every 5 days for 8 weeks?

Keep the acros in a quarantine tank for the 8 weeks?

If it's a small frag and I can remove it from the plug, dip it and make sure there are no eggs, would it be safe to put it back in the dt?

Thanks!

Yup those are annoying .

I was dipping and dipping and they would come back. Here's what helped me

1) remove all of the acros from the rock even if they look perfect, (slimer is an acro)
2) set up a new frag rack, on another side of the tank.
3) dip all of them in Bayer, revive Browns them out, and I didn't know sps can even survive peroxide. ( but Bayer is the best)
4) remove all of the frags from your old plugs , put them onto the new ones . Place them onto the new frag rack.
5) if you have colonies put them onto the plugs too, but make sure they don't have any dead spots on them, or if they're attached to the rock remove them from the rock. And glue over any dead portion .
6) one more dip would be nice in a week or two.
7) keep your acros on that frag rack for a while , may be like next 3 months.
8) basically this helps make sure you removed all of the flatworms from you acros and gives you a good chance to battle them.

Hope this helps. GL
