So i got an Aiptasia Filefish today. After letting it sit in the water in its bag it came from the LFS I put it in the tank. So he way fine and exploring. Now I see that he is under a rock just lying on its side. I can see it breathing, but wondering if this is normal since I do not know its normal swimming habits. Here's a picture.

Mine would swim on its side frequently. Give it some time to acclimate to the tank and keep an eye on it.

Temp is between 76 to 78
Salinity is 1.025

The LFS said to let the bag sit in the water to get the temp around the same so it doesn't shock the fish. Told me not to use a net to put her in. Told me to use my hands to put her in the water.

What does your lfs keep their salinity at? Most lfs keep them pretty low

Next time you look, tell the fish you brought it home to eat aptasia, and that you expect it to get busy and eat and to quit lying around in the tank. If it doesn't listen, explain to the fish that you will take it back the the LFS if it can't do its job. These generally respond to that kind of encouragement once they get settled in and feel that your tank is safe from predators. HTH.

I didn't believe you at first but you do start a lot of posts ! Lol I'm just teasing, you should , this is the biggest concentration of fish nerds around and we all want to help ! Like they said sometimes the lfs keeps the salinity lower usually so sometimes salinity levels are off compared to our tanks. I think he will be fine and is just settling in . Tomorrow will be a good indicator

I kind of figured haha but thank you. I will keep updated. My boyfriend is the one who got in the habit and he fell out of it. So I took over. I actually really enjoy it.

So little guy did not make it through the night.. :( I know it was not my water parameters since they were all good yesterday. Idk :( I'm wondering since I bought him yesterday at the lfs would they let me get credit for him since I got him yesterday.

Sorry you lost the little guy, your lfs is questionable if they told you that that was how to acclimate a fish!
There are a few ways to do it, I float the bag as you did correctly but I then add a cup of water to the bag about 6 times over 20 - 30 minutes and then add the fish.
Good luck with your next try.
In my opinion it is in no way your fault as you followed their dodgy advice. :)

Sorry that you lost your filefish - they are truly characters and even though ours eats shrimp and will occasionally blow over a snail and eat it - I love watching him and we won't get rid of him.

I would bring a sample of your water to that LFS along with the deceased fish. Ask them to test your water to help identify any large differences that may have contributed.

As far as guarantees - all LFSs do things differently so it's hard to say what they may or may not do.

So they did not give credit got my fish. So bought another one. Slowly taking my time with this one. Let him sit in the water for 30 minutes then adding a half a cup of my tank water every 15minutes. Fingers crossed.
