Aiptasia is becoming terrible during ...

I'm currently in fallow period as my Fish are in quarantine process. I've noticed a dozen aiptasia maybe more start to grow everywhere in my tank! I assume this is because my aiptasia File fish is now longer there! Have you guys used anything to keep the numbers down? I would hate to have this manifest into a garden of aiptasia betime fallow is over. Of course i cant just drop in neudibranch's as they need to quarantine 30 days too. Let me know what you guys think.

Manual removal? or maybe captive bred peppermint shrimp that wouldn't necessarily have to quarantine?

Peppermint shrimp be sure to get L wurdemanni is the right ones. I had alot in my tank I tried neudibranch..... Kalk ... Peppermint shrimp took care of them fast

the issue is, if you have a dozen visible aiptasia you actually have half a dozen more hidden where you can't see them. you're likely right that the filefish was maintaining them for you but in order to keep them down you have to enlist another fish or shrimp to do it. manually removing them is a endless job as you just never seem to get them all and they just continually pop up.

Ah generally just mix Kalk with a bit of water, you want the consistency of country gravy for biscuits. Use a pipette and then just shove it into the mouth and blast em'. I'm pretty sure Apstasia X is just glorified kalk paste, but don't quote me on that. Super simple. No real impact (I dose kalk anyway), you don't need much and it should wipe em out with 1 dose.

Why would you quarantine a nudibranch?

I do agree with this, Kalk paste is a good "target", but probably would be tiresome to do a whole outbreak or continuous maintenance.

Also curious as to why you would need to QT a Berghia Nudi. I QT everything, and never QT'd a Berghia. I get them from Salty Underground. Unless you have a system setup to grow Berghia, they will die in QT.

I agree with the above a berghia will starve to death in a qt with no aiptasia to eat

I was looking close and it’s pretty bad . They are everywhere almost scratching. My head now

as the other guys have said, just buy the nudi's and dump them in without worry. a fallow period is actually an ideal time to do this as depending on your stock-list they won't have the worry of predators like wrasses picking them off before they do their work.

I did this yesterday and took out maybe 5-9 on one rock. That was the only rock that had a lot.

Now my dkh is high and ph looks amazing. I have to wait for dkh to drop now …. I see that problem now using kalk

Ya if you had livestock in it I don't know if I'd go kalk commando, but it should all settle out shortly enough. You can vac up some of the debris after a few days or just rinse the rocks if they are loose in some fresh saltwater. Kalk is a great "spot treatment" and it works. I believe if you aerate the tank more it should come down a lil' quicker. I could be making that up.

I have some torches and inverts In there . I seen the spike of dkh 8.1 to 8.75

Today the aiptasia didn’t come back!! But I have to wait until dkh drops to hit the rest ! This method is solid

Rarely do we get "cheap, dumb and effective" in reefing. ENJOY IT! lol.
