Aiptasia

Aiptasia X, Copper Band Butterfly, Long Nose Butterfly, Heniocus, And I think theres some kind of sea slug or nudibranch that eats them also, Pepermint shrimp are hit and miss. I Just nuke them with aiptasi x when ever I see them

Paste made of pickling lime and RO water. Very cheap and effective.

Berghia nudibranch will only suppress the infestation and then starve themselves out. I used a "large size" culture of 15 to seed my 80 gallon rimless. The culture took about 5 months to began to suppress the aiptasia. My tank was mostly clear of aiptasia for approx 4 months. After the clear period the aiptasia came back full strength. I do not think they are worth the expensive cost for a temporary fix. I would treat by placing a densely branched piece of dead birdsnest over the aiptasia until it attaches. Once attached remove the rock. You can also try using chemicals specific for eradicating aiptasia.

I think my LFS gave me aiptasia.

At their going out of business sale, I bought a couple of the half-price frags and rocks. I have been looking at one of the things growing on it, and now there is one just like it that appeared on another rock a foot away. This would be the first spontaneous coral growth in the tank, but it looks like the aiptasia pics.

I'm a little clueless- except for two nemes in another tank, I've always been a "fish and live rock" person for the year I've been in the hobby. The thing I'm talking about is the tan branchy-bit at the top center of the rock. I now have two of them, and if two people tell me it's aiptasia, I'm grabbing that rock out of the tank and throwing it out the back door into the woods. No joke.

Then there's the red stuff. If it had bubbles, I'd be scared it was cyano with my luck.

I had a horrible problem with them about 6 months ago and tried alot of chemical stuff and none of that worked so I tried peppermint shrimp and that worked great but yes they are hit and miss

Hands down the BEST way to rid those pests is Peppermint shrimp!!! My 90 had hundreds even growing out of the sandbed! I purcased 3 Peppermint Shrimp & in 2 days.... YES i said DAYS, GONE, FINITO, OUT OF THERE!!!!!! Best part is they go great in a Reef tank & keep aptasia to ZERO & kill flake food!

Where you get yours from?

Be careful, as peppermint's often get confused with camel shrimp, which do nothing to aiptasia. (one reason I think ppl feel peppermints are hit and miss) This is a big part of why I went with the tank raised guys from liveaquaria.

That looks like a mojano. Just as bad as aptasia.

I'll tell you from recent experience if you can take the rock out... Chisel the **** thing out... As the methods listed here work... Most of the time they work temporarily... I used the picking lime method... And I thought it worked great... I even sucked the burned aiptasia w a turkey baster.., well so I though.., them it turned to 2 and 3 and recently I had about 10 on 3 diff rocks!! Well since I'm only about six months in and don't have too much I took the rocks out and chisel them out!!! Yeah I lost some rock but hopefully I lost the aiptasia for good! Good luck w yours.

As for all my research and advise from a few reefers, One method that seems to be the best of all so far is using nudibranch.. But that's a bit costly and is only worth if you have a well stablished reef and unfortunately have an aiptasia infestation.

I got one and never had a problem with aiptasia's since.
