----Aiptasia-----

How many do you suggest for a 300 gallon with quite a few Aiptasia

Since you have such a big tank, what I actually recommend you do is buy around 10 of them. In a side container (you can use a breeder net), put at least two of them aside. Throw the rest of them in your display.

The ones you set aside will be your breeders. You will have a constant supply of them so long as you can keep them fed. If you buy relatively mature nudis, they will lay eggs at least once a week -- usually more. As long as you make sure the breeder container always has aiptasia in it, you will soon find a steady supply of new slugs. This is useful because:

1) Any missed aiptasia -- and there could be lots considering the size of your tank and relative stupidity of the nudibranch -- will start spreading again and it's nice to have replacements (the ones in the display will die once they cannot find more aiptasia)
2) Fish might eat them. Though, I have not seen this happen in my aquarium and I have a vlamingi and a labouti wrasse (I have seen vlamingi TRY to eat one, but he spit it out immediately and it lived). In any case, it won't matter if you have more :)
3) You can SELL them :)

I actually did exactly the above (re: #3, local only) and, as I'm sure you'll find if you discuss this w/ others who have done similar, the hardest part is actually getting enough aiptasia to keep them fed :)

Good luck!

p.s. If you don't want to go that route, I'd say probably around 30 would suffice. Alternatively, just throw all 10 in the display. As long as nothing eats them (or their eggs), they'll reproduce in tank. It bears mentioning that amphipods WILL eat the eggs. You'll find people talking about this in the forums and I corroborate their findings.

I've tried the laser method on several occasions. While it seems to burn the head and tentales, it does not completely eradicate them completely deep enough into the rock. They burn and shrivel up but then in a week or 2 they have always come back, sometimes bigger and better.
I've tried the mejano wand also which seems to work much better. Instead of just burning them and watching them shrivel up, the aiptasia would melt and turn into a gooey slime with the mejano wand. I have had much better results with the mejano wand.
Other than the mejano wand, I had better results with something like aiptasia x over the laser. At least with the aiptasia x they would inject the solution. Some would come back but if I stuck with it and do it at every water change or in between my success of getting rid of them was even better. Couple with peppermint shrimps, they would come out at night to scavenge and eat the smaller aiptasia.
If you decide to use a laser be careful. The reflection of the laser off of the glass will burn what ever it is reflecting on.

I think I will add a copperband and a matted filefish. Along with some peps and continue to use Aiptasia X as well. WAR HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN DECLARED!

Also thanks for all the input guys.

Just picked up a copperband and a matted filefish. And some peps. Hope they work. Might get a laser for a little stress reliever lol. Happy New Year Reefers!

Anyone use a laser or anything else to remove these pests!!!!
What laser did you use if any and a recommendation where to buy one would help?
Thanks
DH

just use aiptasia X? you put it directly onto them with a syringe and they die literally within 5 seconds

I have it in areas where I can't reach them and when I have killed them with that before they seem to come back twice as much.
