Aiptasia

What is the best aiptasia killer product ?
is blue life rx any good ?
Any home remedies? I only spotted one stalk and haven’t had any problems with this in years
I’d like to get rid of it before it becomes an issue
I've used it with success same with aprasia x and peppermint shrimps.

I have used F-Aiptasia and it worked well for me for the occasional occurrence, but it only works if you can completely cover the aiptasia with it. If the aiptasia is hanging on the underside of the rock formation (e.g., on the bottom side of an arch) it will not work.

I recently had a large outbreak of about 30 or more (I wasn't counting) while I was out of the country for about a month. Because of the volume and some of the locations of the pests, I needed a different solution so I built my own version of the Majano Wand with some spare electric components I had laying around my workshop. I would spend a few minutes zapping them every day and after about 5 days, there was no more to be found. It worked great, cost me nothing, and it worked for every location the little critters were hiding.

I personally use Rea Sea Aiptasia X. This works as containment but I never found a definitive solution for aiptasias.

F Aptasia is hard to mix but far easier to use effectively than X. - no question

and shrimp help keep them form coming back

Kalk paste injected into mouth, and cover when it retracts.
Big ones will take 2 days of this.
Not toxic to other inhabitants

I’m thinking of starting with some peppermint shrimp but wonder if my cleaner shrimp might eat the peppermint shrimp? They’re usually fairly small when you get them and my cleaner shrimp is a couple years old and a nice size

Isn’t there something else, like peroxide or some type of household product that you can inject into their mouth that’ll also kill them and is safe for fish and other reef life ?

In my experience, most home remedies for Aiptasia it result in either being somewhat effective or annoying them where are they reproduce like crazy. My go-to approach has been to knock them back with F-Aiptasia and let the Berghia nudibranchs do the rest. However, this isn’t a full proof approach if you have predators in the tank that pick out the nudibranchd.

I had them popping up one or two at a time and was shooting them with lemon juice. It killed them, but they still came back. I got some peppermint shrimp from Reef Cleaners a week or so ago and the ones in there are gone. Hopefully for good. No idea about peppermints and cleaners, though.

Wait...
One aptasia? Can you take the rock out of the water? This is best to kill outside of tank with lemon juice, rinse with tank water outside the tank. Squirt it again for good measure and place back in tank.

There are NO guarantees that that covering it in kalkpaste, F-Aptaisia, Aptaisia X, lemon juice, Etc. will not promote it to spread all over your tank. This is why it's best to do it outside the tank, especially if you only have one aptaisia.
For every one person that says it helped and killed him I could probably show you one that just made it spread all over the tank.

Mine don't bother each other

ok, you can't build something like that, say you did it and not post pics. Cough 'em up!!:grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Can you show me what this device looks like ? I have unfortunately been battling some very difficult to reach aiptasia and this sounds like something I would be very interested in

You need to post this magic wand and how to make it lol!!!

:rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: No problem.....I'll update the thread with some pics when I get home tonight and some simple instructions and/or links with where I found the original build instructions.

Reachability is a critical issue. I had originally attached my wand to a stick like the commercial version but found it limited access to some tough to reach places. I then detached the working part of the wand and held it my hand and I could reach many/all the ones I could not reach before. I should note that some locations caused me to be up to my shoulder in water as my tank is 30" high. I'm not sure if the commercial versions allow you to detach the electrode portion from the stick or not.

The commercially available Majano wand can be found on ebay (search "majano wand") and on Amazon (search "Majano Wand Aiptasia and Majano Eliminator")

Kalk and lemon juice. I have BRS Kalk powder (or you can buy other sources from the pet store); take a level teaspoon with a shot glass size of your tank water. Add 10 to 12 drops off pure lemon juice and mix for a good couple minutes. Before the solution settles draw it into a large syringe and apply directly inject into the Aiptasia as many have commented above. Take caution not to hit your zoa's or other coral as it will kill them off as well. When I do this I only do a few Aiptasia a day since this can adversely effect water chemistry pumping a bunch of the solution in there on a given day (tank water volume?). Sometimes you have to hit them again the next day but it usually works well just like the shelf products which from a recipe standpoint are very similar in ingredients.

Hopefully in a couple weeks/months(?) I'll be able to report back on the performance of my new nudibranches. Got them today to try and tackle my ongoing aiptaisia issue.
