Wow, I have never seen a 8 foot steel stand without a center brace. Are you sure that is OK?

The stand itself is 350 pounds solid steel. There is also cross bars going from the back to the front on top. This provides additional stability. You can actually put a car on top of it.

The new tank is on its way from custom aquariums. Its 96" X 30" X 30" . The steel stand is being built by a local company. Orphek Atlantic v4 is also on its way for the lighting.

Is this the only update they ever sent you, when it was crated? I ordered mine almost 2 months ago and was told i would get updates in the process, havent goten anything and is supposed to ship first week of june

I actually never asked them to send updates. I got updates only after it reached the local dealer. Don’t worry it will be shipped on time.

Did you pay the extra $120 to get the “cosmetically detailed bottom seam”?

I’m not sure how much sand I’m using yet to know if it is going to be completely covered on the bottom. This makes the decision difficult when Custom Aquariums doesn’t provide pictures of the difference between detailed vs non-detailed.

I got the non detailed seam as I am going to have at least a 1 inch sand bed. This is how it looks

My dimensions are 72x28x30H.

I am considering going 3/4 all the way around for a stronger build. It’s about $300 extra more than the 5/8 with 1/2 sides. What are your thoughts on that?

Why don’t you go 30 inch deep? It won’t cost any extra. Space constraints?

I didn’t go with 3/4 inch glass because of how much more it’s going to weigh. I had 8
Guys to move this tank in. Also I get a headache looking through 3/4 inch glass.

I’m building into a wall on a corner. 28 is the most I could fit and I would rather loose 2 inches and pay for the 30 than go with 24. That 4 more inches is worth it to me. Front and right panels are visible from the front.

I was talking about distortion. Probably you won’t notice any distortion. I was referring to a tank at my local store that had regular glass. Probably with low iron glass you won’t notice any.

No, they don’t do rimless or euro braced tanks.

Man, I’m really torn on whether to fork down the extra 300 bucks and go with 3/4 or just save and go with 5/8.

How is your tank holding up? Any bowing?

I just got a used tank same dimensions 90 x 30 x 30 but it was used for fresh water and had one 2" hole drilled in the middle for overflow and 1/2" returns one either end. Will this be enough for a reef tank? My local fish store thinks that will not be enough overflow for an 8ft tank.

I think bowing would be an issue if you go rimless. I haven’t filled water in my tank yet. But I don’t think I will have an issue with the 3 braces in place.
